i wuold get a better psu..only because it is under 80% efficient so 80% of 750W = 600Watts..it will power your system but u said something about SLI in the future

when it comes to price, investing in a top notch psu is definently worth it, bad psu= fried parts=big ouchy. you always have to look at the oem, efficency, "modular-ness" pfc, rail system and amps. you want to get a psu built by a good oem, one thats very efficent (ATLEAST 80+), one that does not have modular cabling, you want active pfc, and one large single rail that has 30+ (40+ for sli systems) amps.

he may want the as5 for other stuff too, like gpu heatsink, reapplying tims later on, etc. etc. but yeah, use the mx-1 thats pre applied.

While modular cabling does improve airflow, they limit power by increasing the electrical resisitance, in fact the voltage drop can be as much as that which would occur in 2 feet of standard wire. Worst of all though, modular plugs utilize delicate pins that can easily loosen, corrode, and burn, creating the potential for a major system failure.

and go with the pc power and cooling 750w which i mentioned earlier.

I don't think I agree fully to that.. It depends on the case and/or the sleeving, if any. For some reasons, my CM Elite 330 + Tagan Easycon makes everything a mess even with minimum cables installed. I have a Chieftech PSU also, and the cabling can be made much cleaner with it. Unsleeved cables are often easier to hide away somewhere.

I don't know if that's the case with those fancy l33t-end PSU's though..

Anyhow, I like my PSU, even if the connectors seems a bit weak.

Err.... no... 80% Means it will draw more than 750W at 100% Load. 750 Is what CAN be supplied to the system, moreover his system will only use around 450~500W... There is NO such thing as a 100% Efficient PSU, that would mean it could convert 240V AC 750W to 750W DC without pumping any heat out!

Atnevon, your current setup is fine. Leave it how it is. The PSU Is overkill for your current setup-even my CM iGreen 600W is enough to power your planned SLI setup without any problems... (Sad fact that some members are misleading...)

CM Elite is easy to be neat with... if you cant be neat with it, then you gotta improve at cable management

EDIT: hat... what are you on about. That Silverstone PSU IS Modular.

Considering the fact guys he is using an Antec 900 in his system I would go with modular, DONT use any other scenarios and compare... its honestly confusing to read.

There is a decent debate over the PSU. The PC gets louder under heavy loads, but seemed to hold up. Though it isn't modular. The Silverstone has a bigger fan, but would it be more efficient heat wise to have the PC. Since the PSU is on the bottom, this could change things.

my neohe uses a single 80mm fan and it runs very efficent and cool.

750w IS overkill for your system, but remember that not all of it will be used, your psu will only supply what your system needs. however, you're psu temps will be lower if you less less of the capacity of your psu=equal more quiet system, you can lower the wattage if you want, but be aware, if you plan on getting like sli and stuff, etc in the near future, you're better off with the 750w.

System looks great, but why would you spend that much money, but only give 80 bucks to RAM? G.Skill is great, but if you're going for a system that's top-dollar, don't gimp on the ram! Users here know the potential of the G.Skill HZ's.. and the Crucial Ballistix are always good to go with.

yup, get the crucials and note: you dont need 64 bit to run 4 gb memory. you just need to use the /pae switch in the boot.ini file and you're system will run on 4 gigs+ of memory, the os just wont detect it. google pae (physical adress extension) for more info.

As said above, 80% efficiency doesnt mean 0.8 x 750 = 600W, but 1/0.8 x 750 = 937.5.

Hypothetically, if the system was drawing 750w, with 80% efficiency, the usage at the outlet would be 937.5w.

(80% of 937.5 being 750)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a modular power supply, especially if it's a top quality unit. The differences are greatly exaggerated by some people. If you want it, get it.

Here's another psu worth looking at: Seasonic M12 700w
It puts out the same 12V amperage as the 750w you picked (56A), and Seasonic PSUs are top notch.


As for the ram, I also say to get the Crucial Ballistix PC6400 2x1GB. They are great sticks. Mine do 1000MHz 4-4-4-12 on 2.3V, 1066MHz 4-4-4-12 on 2.4v, or 1200MHz 5-5-5-15 on 2.4v. Phenomenal bang-for-the-buck.

Well, the deed it done. I went with the Siverstone PSU, and I switched out the RAM with the Crucial.

I'm so happy now. I'll have the wondrous Quad, 8800GTX, and a great all round system. I'll be sure to do the pics of my assembly and finish product. Thank you to everyone, I have taken all of your comments with great thought and consideration. On the plus side, if it doesn't work, or it pisses me off, I can just send it back to Newegg.
