Hardware help AGAIN!

Ok, i have roughly £150-£170 to spend. I have 2 choices it seems --
Nvidia 8800GTS GPU
AMD X2 6000+ and 2GB 6400 RAM

What should i go with? or what else could i get?

between those two choices id go with the ram+cpu easily.

maybe throw a soundcard in there to "unload" your cpu??

i think you would notice the performance increase more from those two items than the video card.

plus theres supposed to be new cards coming out soon so......

with your current card the 6000 will bottleneck on games if you an spend a little more to get and a 2600 ddr3 it will be a nice rig if not well the 8800 will bottleneck by your cpu although a little

IF you are gaming then the GPU is your choice in your current rig for a performance increase in gaming...the CPU upgrade really wont help as much as the GPU will in your current system in regards to gaming.Good luck!

so the extra ram (1g) and the extra mhz on the cpu is not worth it?

wouldnt a 880gts bottleneck his CURRENT system? especially with 1 gig of ram?

i can almost guarantee you 100% that you WILL notice more performance from the cpu/ram upgrade. let me explain:

what good is that new vid card when its bottled by your cpu? would good are those new games when theyre lagged cause your paging instead of using your RAM.

i aint no expert but there is way to many n00b's that know everything.

If he got the 8800, yes it would be bottlenecked, BUT it will still provide a performance increase in gaming. It would shame his current 7600. The 8800 will benefit gaming more than the cpu and ram, not only in framerates, but also in IQ, even with the bottleneck. Besides, cranking the AA/AF and/or jacking up the resolution lessens the cpu bottleneck effect.

However, the cpu and ram will benefit more than games.

You would gain an enourmous boost if you get the graphic card. But then you have to upgrade the motherboard and the CPU if you want to use it in all it's glory.. I'd go for the 8800GTS.

For gaming you wouldn't notice anything if you upgraded the cpu och ram. other tasks.. Maybe, but not that much.

Also, you don't really NEED 2GB of RAM. I play the Crysis beta(1280*1024 @ medium), Bioshock (1280*1024 @ max) and Battlefield 2 (1280*1024 @ max) and everything runs extremely smoothly. Of course, my CPU is better than yours, but that has nothing to do with Intel Agent's statements.

why does everyone assume that all he uses his comp for is gaming? he may, he may not.

hell have a much better all-round system with the cpu/ram upgrade and with the way things are in the gpu scene i think he'd be at a loss to buy that card now cuz its prolly gonna be like half price in 1 or 2 months and if he does the ram/cpu now when he does do the grfx he wont be complaining of lag or stuttering cuz of bottlenecks and hell be able to FULLY enjoy his grfx upgrade. its about balance isnt it?

i still stand behind what i said in my earlier post.

just my $0.02

I'm not, that's why I said the cpu/ram will benefit more than games.

Good point..

I guess it depends on what the systems main use is.. I still don't believe that 1GB will bottleneck his games though, as they don't bottleneck my games.

EDIT: I mean, if he uses it ONLY for gaming and web-stuff, he won't notice anything with new CPU+RAM. If he (why is it always a "he"?) does things that require more processing power and memory I guess that is the way to go.
