NVIDIA G92 GPU Launch Date Brought Forward

NVIDIA is bringing forward the launch date of its upcoming GeForce 8800 GT (G92) GPU to October 29th from the original November 12th, targeting AMD's new Radeon HD 2950PRO (RV670) as the major competitor, according to DigiTimes. With G92 and RV670 having a tight performance/price ratio, NVIDIA's earlier launch should give the company an advantage in the market. In addition to G92, NVIDIA will also launch the G98 GPU to replace the GeForce 8600 series, however the launch date has not yet been set.

Unconfirmed specs: 65nm GPU made by UMC (confirmed), 256-bit memory bus, 512MB memory, 600MHz core and 1.8GHz memory clocks, assumed price between $250 and $300.

lol, just sounds like some company got scared. Never mind, bringing out earlier, as stated, will get them a chunk O' the market.

you never know, this may prompt a sooner release of AMD's stuff. At the end of the day the customers win

Not scared, NVIDIA is ahead of its schedule. The GPUs are already being produced by UMC...so the cards can ship earlier than the official release date.

$199 for 256MB version.....$249 for 512MB (estimated). Single slot cooler, around the performance of the 320MB 8800GTS but should run a lot cooler and have much more ovrclocking headroom.....may have less SP's....but not sure on that.

Ive read less SP's but higher SP clock that will help make up for the fewer shaders it has than the current 8800gts.. but also the current 8800gts is supposed to have a revision with more SP's since this card is catching up to/almost as fast as the current 8800gts.

Maybe so, but it still could be that they got a wee bit scared about market loss if they left the card to its official release time. Hence if they got the supplies, they let it loose to safeguard their market share

Everybody think going SLi with these be worth it?

They do sound very nice indeed. I am looking forward to purchasing a 256MB flavor of one. Just all depends on the $$ situation.

I may just get an 8600GT and upgrade the cpu vs. SLi 2 of these.

Thats not how things work in the business world. In the business world you only get scared if your companies going under. Nvidias goal here like all other corporate businesses is to maximize their profits by attaining any edge on their competitor possible. Also bumping a products release date shows confidence as opposed to when companies keep pushing back release dates. Being Scared is not a factor.

The G92 will be interesting.

I believe you are correct sir I'd wait for the new GTS. It will be a 640 meg version, I think.
