If you might go crossfire go with the P35, If you might go SLI, go with the 680.

get a gigabyte p35 dq6(or anyother gigabyte p35 board) and it'll kick 680i in the balls if you aren't gonna be doing sli

Seems the sli is NEEDED for the OCZ chips.. the el 6800 ddr2 memory I wanted to get.. stuff is really looking great for latency and speed increases at oc.. but if I punt those ram, I will get the asus board p5k chip and some other ram.. do not know much about the ddr2 stuff, so only going by reviews and manu reputations... any choices in ram if I punthte ocz 6800 el?
other ocz? crucial? kinston.. price is less a concern than SPEED! |

Personally, I would go with the E6850. The quad core is pretty useless right now and by the time that it gets used, there will be better Quads out. The E6850 is a beast and will serve you well, plus thats pretty cheap on it.

its varies from person to person as what they want. personally i'd say quad, and im sure many will agree with me, and then people would agree with jc as well.

I am still looking at the comparisons with that ocz reaper, will and sli at 400 fsb.. er 1600? be aduqquit to pump up the speedsd with the cpu? I am 60/40 leaning toward the evga 680 sli, not for the sli but for the compatibility issue with the reaper ocz 6800, clocks at low latenceis per tested reviews at 1100 stable! and at 109 a great price, yet I would rather get a better occing mobo and chipset than a reduced price speed is more important than a few dollars, and really 30 50 dollars is cheap when we are talking diffences in ocing in the cpu!
thanks again all, this is really helping.. for those interested it is a ram ozcreaper el 6800 |

crucial is good because if you ever rma you are guarantied micron chips where as other manufacturers come out with nice ram that use micron chips... than switch it on you.. cosair, patriot.. this is a new trend for ram manufacturers.. even OCZ has done this I think.
see my ram.. this was originally micron chips.. now if I was to buy 2 more gigs I would get some other chips.. yet the sticks still cost the same as if they had micron chips... damm scam artists lol now you go review my ram and you woould think your getting nice overclocking ram.. but than when you guy actually buy it today you get different timings on the sticks!!! not even the packaging!!! grrrr! lol

ocz, patriot, corsair, used to do micron d9's, and now they're switching back and forth from elpidia and micron, so they're not pure anymore, and you dont know what chip you're gonna get back

p5k a winner hands down runs reasonabley cool cheaper in a fair few cases than a 680i and i think the p35 chipset have advantage over it plus great overclocking, gskill do d9's aswell as cruicual some 800 ballistixs or G.skill f2-6400-phu2-hz great overclockers

And memory being SLI certified doesn't really mean anything. It just means it will automatically overclock in a supported board. You can just manually OC them instead. I say go with Crucial Ballistix or G.Skill HZ series. Both are D9s.
And I think a P35 mobo with a Q6600 is the way to go. More and more apps are becoming multi-threaded, so the quad will pay off more in the long run. Even now, if you do any kind of video encoding or rendering, the quad is faster. The quad also has the benefit of much greater multitasking abilities. If you are buying now, I think it makes the most sense to buy the best you can afford. Playing the waiting game is silly, imo. If you always wait because something better might come along, you'll never end up buying anything.

well I think the decision is with the p35, and I have liked asus in the past with my 939sys.
I also found the cruxials, non led version of the 8500 at NE for cheap 129 (-30) so for 999 these look very very good, fast and approprite for the asus p5k... not sold on a quad, as I really just want spead for what I have now, and can always edump the conroe for a quad.. prices on the q6600 will fall as well! Now the delima continues, p5k vinella, or delex or wifi or.. well you get my drift... one advantage is the p5k is crossover ready and I have a HIS1950 pro.... anybody know about 16x crossover? vs 4 x is there testing? |

pk5 Premium is supposed to be the best ASUS board.
As for 16x + 4x Crossfire, there are some losses, but you'll still see substantial gains in Crossfire. It's just that 8x + 8x or 16X + 16x are better.

Didn't do their research, or they really just want the LEDs. lol. But seriously, I've seen the Tracers for much less than 399. I think that's probably just where you looked.
