America Extends Tax Moratorium by Seven More Years

American citizens can be glad in the fact that once again, the government will not be charging them for the privilege of using the internet. American internet customers have not been taxed for their internet use since 1998, and the moratorium has been renewed in 2001 and 2004. The senate is considering a permanent tax moratorium on the internet, due to strong opposition from Internet Service Providers on an internet tax.

ITS FUNNY HOW IT SAYS THAT this would upset the ISP's and not the consumers. I mean seriously do they just not care at all about us?

If anyone was to get taxed I would hope it was the ISP companies that already charghe us $99 a month for the first 6 months before they jack up the price even more. Those jackasses They should pay taxes at no cost to us since they are already monopoly companies including Comcast, Adelphia, Verizon, etc. They deserve to be punished at no cost to us.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of connection does your $99 a month get you?

I know that around here, the Comcast "triple play" thing is an introductory rate of $69 a month for 12 months, and gets you digital cable, 6Mb/s internet, and cable phone. Of course, the rates afterwords are $60, $60, and $40 a month each, respectively, but...you're getting quite a lot of stuff.

My parents pay $30 for 3Mb/s internet courtesy of Verizon, and I have to say it's awesome.

I pay $59.95 monthly + 10% GST (tax)
For that we get a "Up to 12mb/sec" plan. It never goes above 1MB/sec and usually transfer rates are around the 256-512Kb/sec range. At least its cable internet though...
Most people get suckered into ADSL.

Cable = bad if you have a bunch of bandwidth hungry neighbors on cable.

ADSL = bad if you're far away from the station.

Pick your poison... .

Edit: 12Mb/s = 4MB/s. My 3Mb/s DSL translates to about 350KB/s actual download throughput over a wireless network, which isn't half bad. My friend's 7Mb/s internet gets him 700/800KB/s download speeds, but he pays $60 a month for that privilege....

Agreed 100%. Proven time and time again in history. Now, how was trickle-down supposedly a bad idea?

You're partially correct. Cingular bought out AT&T Wireless a few years ago. At that time, AT&T Wireless was a separate entity. More recently, however, AT&T (the main division) bought out Cingular.

Mediacom and Knology will throw that out to you if you live in the Huntsville, Alabama, area.

They will tell you "only $99.99 for the first 6 months for your bundle with us"

Ill finish the rest of my rant in a bit guys gotta get to class
