I wouldn't bet any cash on that cooler being the final design.
Intel regularly tests new coolers and I've seen some shite over the years that never made it to retail, anyone remember the one with the odd wire add-on that you clipped on top of the fan to prevent it from cutting your fingers off? Well, that one never made it... Just because it has an Intel sticker on it means squat and besides, why would the new cooler running CPU's need a bigger cooler? |

The title of the thread says these are for the new Core 2 Extremes. I doubt the standard Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quads will have anything like this (especially as far as the LED goes).

looks nice, bit shitty the switch tho. Ive shaved my knuckes on fans trying to get past em or near em lol. Does look attractive tho, sort of like a high tech blender, just eager as a beaver to chew yer fingers

Good for getting some air to the sinks on the regs around the cpu socket at least.

I agree. If people shell out the big bucks to get a high-end CPU, why should they get the same crappy little heatsink that they put with the Celerons? I know it often boils down to cost, though, as to what actually gets to the customer when the units roll into production.

uninstall is easy on 775, just turn all four clips counter clock wise and pull.
I just noticed the fan speed switch. So no more mobo based fan control? |

That is quite suspicious. I wouldn't have thought they'd take a step back like that, unless the switch isn't linked to speed and is actually to do with something like the LEDs. Any guesses at what the P and Q stand for?

Well you pay frickin big $$$ for Intel Extreme processor so really it's about time they started shipping them with a half decent cooler. That said, I wouldn't touch another of these clip-in 775 coolers again after the hell my one put me through.

What do you reckon those are made of? It certainly isn't copper, so if it's aluminium this is unlikely to be that incredible at cooling. Looks good, but I'm seriously doubting its practicality compared to a $20 after market heatsink.
