Is everything required? Monitor, keyboard, mouse, or just the system?

2gb OCZ Gold

Arctic Freezer pro

That equals $713, so that leaves some room for his case, hard drive, and DVD rive.

Gooble up the savings week they have a nice dvd burner for $27..
http://www.ncix.com/promo/promosale....bid=gobble2007

Also Nicx does pricematch so use http://www.shopbot.ca/ to find the best prices than get them to match it

If you get the q6600 you get free ground shipping which should save you like $60.. I'll try and get you a config going just have to remove this damm wheel off my desk :P

chewy I'd recommend dropping to dual core from the quad, it's still just not worth it if he wants to keep under budget, also the P5K prem. is overkill for the price premium he'd pay, then I'd put the savings into a more efficient cpu cooler

Nicx does pricematch so use http://www.shopbot.ca/ to find the best prices than get them to match it it will save you 40 or more dollars.

so atm its $913.00 shipped with express RMA.. knock some of that off with price matches.. and than count your mail in rebates and your looking at $820 after all is said and done on that..

with the rest of the money get a evga 8800gt at futureshop.ca $250.00 + taxes... get it before its sold oout.. they just went on sale today.

yeah but with the quad he gets free shipping which would pay for the quad.. they did have some ram that gave free shipping for the whole order but its not on thier deal anymore

teh quads free whole order shipping saves him $50.. they been releasing g0 stepping this month too.. I ordered but I dont really care too much if I get a g0 cause I got a nice hefty PSU coming lol

g0's use less power but I hear that it does not make that much of a diff in OC'in.. just in temps though lol.

yeah I didn't realize the quad took care of all the shipping!
and about Q6600 stepping, the difference between G0 and B3 is exaggerated it's not as big a deal as people make it out to be

If you don't get the quad, get one of the Black Box AMD 6000+ or 6400+ (dunno if they make it in black box form), overclock the fvck out of it, add on a tough cooler!

An amd 6400 (3.2ghz) runs quite hot, theres not much overclocking potential in it you'll be lucky to get 3.4ghz without water cooling or some other form of exotic cooling, even than I donno how whigh it would go.. they really started maxing the performance with that cpu design on the 6400 black box and stock for stock vrs the 6750 (2.66ghz) the e6750 is faster with massive OC potential left and uses less power/puts out less heat.

I was going to get the 6400 black box for my bosses system since she dident want any overclocking.. I figured the amd @ 3.2ghz was faster than the e6750 and that it had some serious OC potential left.. but the thing needs very good cooling even stock, thats why it dont come with a hsf.

The quad is only costing him $20 more than an e6750 since the q6600 gives free ground shipping on the entire order.

To the topic starter. I hope you can get the 8800gt.. its the best bang for your buck atm. oh and you can use the stock intel HSF (heatsink) to save yourself $32... but if you want to do any real overclocking you should get that HSF right away.. it'll be better for your case temps even if your not overclocking... why pay shipping down the road for a heavy HSF when you can just add it to your cart now :P

Well that's a good deal then on the Quad, even though I'm probably one of AMD's biggest fans, a Q6600 isn't a bad processor by any means!
