First build need advice

This is my first build. Kinda looking for help if this is an ok build and what can be changed to make it better or if u have any suggestions. Will be used for gaming and running programs like CAD.

I suggest something a LOT cheaper as far as price goes, but just as good in quality if not a better use of money.

looks ok but personally i dont like lite-on (had 3 in 3 different computers fail on me)

i would recommend you choose a samsung or sony dvd burner

the psu would be better to go with this one:

Don't get that board...they don't like Q6600's. Go for a good p35 board, like an Abit IP35 or Dfi p35 Infinity. Oh, and you're out of control with that psu. Even a Corsair HX620 would more that handle this stuff.

Yea I was also going to say P35 would be a better option.

This is a great board for that nice Q6600

edit: I apologize, but the Gigabyte MB doesnt support SLI

get a bigger/better cooler, either the 120mm version or an Thermalright Ultra extreme 120 would be your best bet... also you could do nicely with the PC Power & Cooling 750 Silencer power supply, it'll have more than enough power to power your rig and you can find it for $180 in a black version.. orange is even cheaper.

Everything looks right but I think newegg does pricematches? use shopbot or something to find the best prices and get new egg to pricematch them.. if they do that.. thats what I do with ncix canada.

the intel based boards only supports crossfire and they run 16x/4x slots which means your 8800GT will be bottlenecked by the 4x slot the 680i mobo you had initially supports dual 16x slots and Xfire i would recommend that board since the S2 revision removes all of the quad core overclocking issues

humm you can get them to run sli.. the x38 chipset has 16x pci-e in duel channel.

You can mod it to run sli.. if you wait 2 days the 780i boards will be released. :O

Im going to bed now though. and yes 4x would be a huge bottleneck! good thinking Cdawall, I didnt see that I thought he was getting a new revision 680i board.. one of the ones that like quad core processors..

careful with the open box, they usually come just the bare mobo, no screws or anything else.. so if you dont have spare screws elc just get a new one.

tru tru lol, I should of gotten that o/B ega 680i @ nicx like 4 months ago.. Im sure it was a rev.1 thats prob why it was only like $118.. but I heard O/B dont come with anything most times. me noob lol, well I didnt know you could get screws at radio shack.

You'll prob need some sata cables too since your HD and DVD drive are prob OEM (just the piece of hardware).

Edit: cdwall what if he dont get an i/o shield? I never bought o/b mobos before.

Im sure it was a rev.1 thats prob why it was only like $118.. but I heard O/B dont come with anything most times. me noob lol, well I didnt know you could get screws at radio shack. You'll prob need some sata cables too since your HD and DVD drive are prob OEM (just the piece of hardware). Edit: cdwall what if he dont get an i/o shield?
