Xbox 360 Outsells PlayStation 3 in Japan
Microsoft's Xbox 360 has seen a massive sales boost in Japan, with the system managing to outsell Sony's PlayStation 3, according to data from Media Create. The Microsoft console sold 17,673 units compared to only 3718 the previous week, fuelled by the uptake of Namco Bandai's Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, which debuted in the Japanese charts at number two this week. Sony's PlayStation 3 sold 17,434 units, a drop in performance compared to last week's 18,785 units. Sales of the PlayStation 2 also dropped, with 10,209 units sold. However, the latest handhelds are still the best-selling consoles in the region with the DS shifting 78,597 units and the PSP 59,714 units during the same period. And Nintendo continues to outperform both Sony and Microsoft by racking up another 37,617 sales of the Wii during the past week, helped in part by the release of first-party title Super Mario Galaxy.

in japan a single game can cause a console sales surge down to the fact that consoles are just so cheap there.

This is amazing considering the Japaneese never buy American tech! I'm sure M$ is happy.

What does the PS3 and Xbox 360 and Wii go for there? I can see the PS3 lagging if the price is high. However, its nice to see the Japanese clamor to an American Console...just makes me proud.

games make consoles! why dont sony make a deal with EA (for eg) to only produce games for that console platform. it would cost alot for sony but worth it in units sold.

its great that the japan have started to buy US consoles, but its games that make people buy a 360 or playstation, not how good the console is, like look at the saga saturn vs ps1 the ps1 has the game but wasnt as good at the sega!!
btw most games are made or have a big facture to do with them in the UK,shame they dont make consoles

Well Sony does it to themselves... They push out systems before games are not, massively overprice them and nobody buys them... They will knock the price down, more games will come out and poof they will start to sell break and sell more.

They didn't do it to themselves, they were forced to because MS released their system long before the PS3. They had to release the console or they would loose their fan base due to the fact people would be sick of waiting.
The PS3 itself it not overpriced at all, everything it comes with is justifiable price wise. |

Against a machine that many hold to is superior to the ps3... They did it with the playstation, they did it with the playstation 2... Its sony, they are known for doing it with everything they do.

The games make(or break) the console. A console is only as good as it's games.

Oh I remember the original Air Combat, as it was called in the states. I was addicted to that game. I'm still tossing up what console I want to pick up first, a PS3 or a 360, and this is really pushing the scales towards the 360. I still remember being pissed when I bought my PS2 and found out Ace Combat 3 wasn't compatible with it...
