is BFG7600gt good enough for OBLIVION

7600GTs are good enough for Oblivion, for sure. No idea on settings it can run though, I've never owned one.

hmmm... thats weird, how come my 7600gt oc'ed can not properly run oblivion T_T, esp when my char have to fight like 5-6 monster outdoors, it gives me like 15 fps, i run OBLIVION w/ hdr, everything is set on mid execpt distance view set to max, and 1024 x 768 resolution, i have 4gb memory ddr800 with AMD brisbane 4800, and it still not serve me well on OBLIVION.
Any clue?

Hell no, it's HDR that's your problem. It really overloads the graphics card.
Turn on Bloom instead, it's lighter on teh graphics, and still looks good.
IMO, the 7600GT should be good for medium settings alround at thevery least.

Also, don't forget, Oblivion is fast paced, but can still be runnign well at lower than normal fps. I used to get a minimum of 10fps, which lingered for a while, at that mark, outdoors and around people, but it was still playable.

Try some mods, there are plenty that can eek out extra performance from Oblivion.

I thought by using HDR it will bypass the vid card utilization a lil bit and throw some work to system processor, thus lessen the work for vid card? correct me if im wrong.

IMO, no their not. My OCd 6800GT matched a lot of clocked 7600GTs but performed poorly with Oblivion. A 1950Pro is a much better choice, their cheap too, about £70. Cheapest 7600GT I can find is about £60

Having owned a 7600GT and played Oblivion to death with it I think I can help.

You must run it at Medium. Turn High on and you'll slowly cook the card.

HDR must not be turned on. Bloom can be, but IMO it looks crap. And as for AA, nothing more than 2x

With my 7600GT overclocked to 620/1.66Ghz I ran it at 1280x1024, 2x AA, no bloom or HDR and Medium.

Still looked pretty darn good considering.

Well, they used to be good cards, heheh.
Hell, the 7600GT beat the old 6800GTs, so that's a good showing of their performance.

The X1950 Pro is defo a better card, I was just thinking he already had it, but didn't yet have Oblivion.
My X1950GT played Oblivion at Ultra High settings, at 1680x1050, with some mods for textures, and grass and water too. Looked awesome, and HDR helped. No AA, but who cares.
If you haven't bought the card yet, X1950 Pro is the way.

thanks for the reply guyz ^^, will try to turned off hdr and see if it helps. off topic lil bit, , do y'all think upgrading to 8600gt 512 mb ram will be worth it from 7600gt 256 ram, cant decide it myself

pffft. No. The 8600GT can't run DX10, and actually performs worse in DX9, not only that but it doesn't clock anywhere near as nice as the 7600GT with proper cooling can. It would not be an upgrade at all.

I'd get a 1950Pro, that really is the only logical upgrade path.

I used to play Oblivion in a 6800GT, similar in performance to 7600GT. I chose to play this game with sliders at 60% some more, some less, at 800x600 and HDR on. Because it was how it looked better for me. Make your own decision, but I would suggest some things:
anti-aliasing off (indeed if you are playing with HDR on, AA it's off, but put it in off both in-game and on Nvidia panel)
be sure that Grass shadows are Off.
grass distance low-medium
lower light distances and detail
lower shadow details
keep textures and objects detail as high as you can
and my best suggestion is lower resolution to 800x600 if you can. It's by far what most affects performance in this game.
Try this out and if you don't like it or doesn't work for you, just play on low or buy a new one.
If you buy a new one, I suggest you to wait and buy a 8800GT 256MB.

The X1950 Pro is certainly a good card, and it's a better upgrade path, but no need to put the 8600s down like that!
It performs better in DX9, only has bad performance in DX10 because it's underpowered for it, but then again, even 8800s have trouble with DX10.
I dunno how fast 7600GTs would clock to, but the 8600GT with vmods, has been over 1GHz core speeds, ofc, it needed much better cooling, but there are plenty of good coolers out there. Without vmods, 8600GT cards have been to 8600GTS speeds, but their slightly puny stock coolers are a hindrance at those speeds, even though the 8600GTS doesn't have a much larger heatsink assembly.
It's still faster than a 7600GT in many instances, so it is an ugrade, but certainly still not as wothy as the X1950 Pro. And if you happen to find a cheap X1950 XT, say, £100 (they're usually selling for about that now anyhow), I'd take it, it's still a brilliant card.
Either way, whatever card you buy, it should overclock well, most cards do now a-days, and should easily handle Oblivion, which is no longer as tough on cards as it used to be (still gives them a right beating though).

my recommendation is the x1950PRO as well, its a little more expensive than the 8600GT
(256MB version) and though they are even in oblivion in almost all the other games its ahead by 5-28fps, yes the 8600GT has dx10 capabilites but it isn't pwoerful enough to actually play any dx10 games comfortably. if u r even goin to compare the PRO to somethin its the GTS not the GT
