Iiyama Unveils ProLite Touchscreen LCD Monitors

Iiyama today announced a new lineup of touch sensitive monitors for desktop computers. The offerings consist of the 15" ProLite T1530SR, the T1730SR, and the T1930SR, all of which connect either through VGA or DVI, and support USB and RS-232 for the touchscreen interface. The new ProLite screens use a 4:3 aspect ratio and come in either a black or white bezel. The 15-inch model supports a typical 1024x768, featuring a 16ms response time, while the 17- and 19-inch versions are rated at 5ms response, with a resolution of 1280x1024. Contrast ratio for the displays is measured at 500:1 for the 15-inch, and 800:1 for the larger models. Iiyama is selling the ProLite touch-based monitors for £330 (~$700US), £350 (~$750US) and £400 (~$850US) respectively. The touch-LCDs are advertised as being compatible with both Macintosh and Windows-based systems.

Wow! I can now feel like I'm at work 24/7 with that! Nice idea, but I don't think I'll be going with that.. Give me a Tablet PC and I'll go for it, but not a monitor.

I wonder how accuracte the touch screen is. Older technology was good for finger selection of areas, or large buttons. But is this accirate enough for a stylus? Being able to mark up documents, or draw, like on a PDA, would be very handy.

I think the devices are designed for simple "user" interfaces for people without PC skills. Why? Because hardcore PC users, like enthusiasts, designers, gamers, LAUGH at 1280x1024 resolution. 1600x1200 or 2048x1600 needed.

I can see a potential for these, just not at the prices offered.

That would be cool to see. The only thing that gets me is that if you wanted it for those types of "users" then I also think the monitor should go almost 70 degrees. I say that so it can hit on everyone?
