Intel Penryn Mobile Processors Revealed

Intel's Core-based architecture will be updated on January 6, 2008 with the introduction of the new mobile 45nm Penryn-based Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme dual core processors, according to DailyTech. It's highly possible that the chips could make their first appearance at CES 2008 (January 7, 2008) with further unveils at MacWorld 2008.

really? 35W minimum? I thought given Core2's already low power draw, and a 45nm shrink we'd see at least some 25W chips. Maybe they're overestimating?

Man, please try and find a different adjective than "gay" if you're going to be talking in the front page forums, okay? Hell, even "retarded" is better.

Sorry to go offtopic but how is "retarded" better than "gay"? At least "gays" have a choice.

I have a 1.6GHz Core2Duo HP notebook that runs just great -- faster than the 2.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 (single core) that's in my desktop, for sure.

I'm not advocating a 1.6GHz proc for gaming, but for business use or web surfing use, you don't really need that much raw clock speed when the architecture of the chip is efficient. It's not like the Pentium 4 days where if you didn't have 3 GHz it felt like you were stuck in molasses...

If they'd release a downclocked 1.6GHz version of this new iteration with lower power consumption for higher battery life, I'd be all for it.

Intel's comment: "The TDP is a specification that is primarily of interest to system builders (OEMs). It allows the OEM to design a system that can handle the heat generated by the processor based on this value. The unchanged TDP rating simplifies the process of designing and building new systems. To the end user, the value that is more interesting is power consumption on a system level, i.e., how much power the entire PC, server or laptop consumes."

You will ONLY see TDP sataed at 25W when the new chipset platofrm is out, so that certain CPUs can be DESIGNED to operate at the lower power rating. Just NOT POSSIBLE today on existing chipset.

why not, it was immature, nothing lame about pointing that out. This is front page posting, not a place for little children.

At least use an adult vocabulary, TPU has a reputation to maintain.

Pretty exciting stuff. Intel has always had a good run of notebook chips. Seems to be they are keeping it going.

Whether or not gay people have a "choice" is irrelevant to the fact that some people running the companies that sponsor this site might possibly be gay.

I don't think any of them are retarded, however. Catch my drift?

That was my thoughts, I'm on a HP nc8430.

Let's end this before we get moderators in here please.
Any more of this from anyone and I'm reporting it- this is just going to cause trouble.
