for me it has to be a combo of both.

i like a game with good gameplay/story/etc... but i also love a game with good graphics, i mean great graphics can make a crappy game good or poor graphics can make a good game crappy.

so for me id have to say a game with goood gameplay and graphics

Socond that.BUT today seems like if it looks good it sells. Still waiting for NFS be better than NFS porsche. I hate the cars but the playability was better than what they do today.

Then again same with these games too.

RvS
Ghost Recon
SOF
Deus Ex
NWN

EDIT: All better than there sequels.

On todays games I expect both. In the N64 days I would say game play.

gameplay of course! before 'good' graphics games solely relied on gameplay and replayability, which shows nowadays where games are just eye candy with very little to offer

i agree game play should be the first selling point on any game like way back in the day or the original goldeneye and perfect dark i think i beat both of those games at least 20 and never got board, the graphics sucked but the game was just awesome or hell even super mario i still dont get board with it and ive been playing it since i was 5 same with zelda and a few others

Gameplay no doubt. I still play MOHAA because Normandy D-Day is the best map ever made for multi player.

I'll take standard graphics for the generation at hand, nothing flashy needed. Gameplay however is a MUST.

As such, I refuse to play with my parents Wii. Why is nintendo 2 generations behind in the graphics department? It makes no sense to me.

I'd have to stretch back to the N64 for playable nintendo games that were worth something. Notably the Zelda series.

Also to note, the Dreamcast for its short duration, was an excellent system. Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, PSO... ahh good times. Dirt cheap to boot!

I'm still hangin' with the PC as the best game system though. No matter what your system specs are, you can find a game that holds down 30fps and your attention simultaneously.

I guess I lean more towards gameplay taking in consideration that if a game had crappy graphics and good Gameplay I would still manage to play it, but if it had good graphics and crappy gameplay i'd throw it away.

Gameplay. I still replay stuff like Baldur's Gate etc.

What I HATE is when they design a game, focus on the graphics and still come out with something that SHOULD look good but is loaded with graphical glitches, and is really hard on your hardware with a shite story.
