NVIDIA ForceWare 169.17 Beta Drivers Leaked

Following the unofficial release of its 169.13 display driver earlier this week, NVIDIA has once again uploaded new drivers to its downloads server in the form of the 169.17 betas. As these aren’t intended to have been released yet, there are no driver information pages, but apparently these drivers are only recommended for people that play Final Fantasy XI. If you want to give them a try, here are the download links (direct to NVIDIA’s FTP server):
  • Windows XP 32-bit – here
  • Windows XP 64-bit – here
  • Windows Vista 32-bit – here
  • Windows Vista 64-bit – here

Interesting, the 8800 cards were awful for FFXI when they first came out. The graphics are very glitchy with shimmering weird looking textures. nVidia kept blaming SquareEnix though, I don't play anymore but I wonder if after a year they finally fixed that.

You made a typo and called it 168.17 in the article body.

So they look like they're better for Crysis.

These drivers are great for Crysis, and other games. Great performance, but also they seem to make my gpu run much hotter? Im not sure if it runs hotter, or its another Nvidia Temp Bug in the driver?

Hey, but since that's in Crysis, I'll take what I can get! I finally did the "very high" tweak for XP, and WOW. I don't think I can go back to high settings without feeling guilty... so bring on the drivers!

Hey thanks for your quick benchmarks, Jimmy 2004 (I mean its2cold). I really appreciate the effort you put in them.

Any improvement is a good thing.

Now sorry because I'm going a little bit offtopic.

No I got more than 0,28% improvement in Crysis. But for you to have some improvement with these drivers, you actually need a GFX Card that can run the game in decent framerates to begin with(g80, g92). Any card below this is not even worth starting Crysis for.

I actually dont know how high fps I get, I only measure my own "feel" in the game. For an example, with forceware 169.13 Crysis ran pretty well with some slowdowns now and then, but not that often. With 169.17, Crysis runs great, no slowdowns, nowhere. I dont care for FPS in %, most important is how enjoyable games feel. I´d rather have a game with no slowdowns and a steady 30fps, than a game with 60-90fps, but lots of jerkiness and slowdowns.

These seem to help Crysis SLI users the most as I got roughly an 18% increase in frames in XP at Very High (Hack) at 1680x1050. The minimum fps was 20.7ish which is pretty good given the settings.
