Sony Vaio Comes with Intel Penryn Processors

Sony has planned a major revival for their sexy Vaio notebooks in the month of January or February. According to Notebook Italia, the firm is all set to upgrade FZ, SZ, CR, and AR Series with the latest 45nm Intel Penryn processors. All of them are Santa Rosa machines with decent specifications. The CR31S / D ($1763) is a 14.1-inch notebook with Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz), 2GB DDR2 memory, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100, 160GB SATA hard drive, dual layer DVD writer, 802.11a/b/g wireless, Bluetooth, webcam, and Vista Home Premium. The 13.3-inch VAIO SZ71XN / C ($2,497) and 15.4-inch FZ38M ($1,467) are similarly specced except for the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS video and 200GB hard drive. The FZ31Z (2,497) is a high end sibling of FZ38M with Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 (2.4GHz), 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB memory, 300GB storage, and a Blu-Ray multi drive. The 17-inch AR61ZU ($3,526) is a desktop replacement with the same FZ38M specs, but comes with a 500GB hard drive.

they all some with decent storage, power and I would guess battery life. And you can't deny that the design on these are HOT! these should give the asus laptops a run for their money.

IMO - I still think the PC/laptop market shoulda just stayed off limits to SONY. They've already got their hands in every other electronics market, and I think they're just running off their name in the PC market at this point.

They're good for certain markets - but other's they're just overhyped/overpriced for others

well if you look at those above configurations, you must admit that their products have more to them than just name. It looks like sony will be among the first to offer penryn in that laptop market which makes them rather huge. Now I do admit that on the whole sony laptops have been overpriced fashion items, but you have to admit it when they're doing things right

The only thing I hope is this... they don't become the famous VAIO bombs anymore.. I'd loved my VAIO, but it was until they desided to try and burn a hole though my carpet, did I think of them as a heating nightmare...

Wish I did! I know the newer models are ALOT better then the one I had... 5 years ago... I loved the thing, had a DVD burner and all... but the power supply would fry an egg... I should go to my ex's and see if it does... For some reason she wanted the thing, so I gave it to her as a going away present a few months ago...
