NVIDIA Delays nForce 780/750/790 and GeForce 9800 GX2 ?

Some bad news coming from the NVIDIA corner, if true. Expreview reports that almost all of NVIDIA’s upcoming products will be delay till March. That includes: nForce 780a, 750a, 790i, 790i and Ultra chipsets, as well as the GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics. There's no official reason for the delay, neither new release dates. The delay will probably make ATI's Radeon HD 3870 X2 video card, the fastest available graphics in the market for a while. Only GeForce 8200 will make it in time and stick to its original February launch schedule.

We'll good news for ATI/AMD. At least it will give them a few months of top spot (graphics wise that is). They certainly need it after their dry spell.

unlike some, i'm not upset by delays.

It just means we wont have crappy drivers at launch, faulty hardware (phenom), or a total shortage of parts (paper launches)

I think it is more keeping the price of the soon to be old items artificially higher then they will be after march. I really do dislike these delays.

They are shooting them self in the foot. Because when Nehalem comes out it will be a new SOCKET. So if I was buying a new 790i mobo with DDR3 ram = $800.00 that will only last tell 2009 for 7 months, I would wait for Nehalem.

It's been going back and forth ever since Nvidia bought out 3dfx. And untill a new player enters the game, that's the way it is. Plus, I don't want to be stuck beta testing a piece of hardware that I pay for. I wouldn't be suprised if cards like the 98whatever GX2 don't get pushed back even further. Nvidia has never made a succesful multi-gpu card. Nvidia needs to start working with 45nm or smaller to stay ahead of the game, and judging by their newest hot as heck running chipsets, they are failing. But, again that's the way things happen. ATi had it's 9800, Nvidia has it's 8800, so what great card is next? We wont really know unitll R700 and G100. Even then, as history suggests, it may take another generation or two of cards, to have a product that blows people away.

well until those aweseome cards come out, we still get to choose the best of whats available now.

between the 3850 and the 8800GT, theres enough options for everyone

No, not really, not everyone. Not even close. Both of those cards, along with 3870 are overrated and overpriced. Currently at least, although prices on 38xx cards are dropping pretty fast. The only real thing those cards have going for them is Dx10 support, or Dx10.1 in the case of 38xx cards and we all know how much that matters right? (*snicker*) Other than that, in raw filtrate and pure polygon pushing scenarios I would perfer a cheaper x1950xt/xtx, which has the same 16 ROPs all 2900/38xx cards do and can be found for much cheaper than 38xx/8800GT’s, and if you search the right places, you can find them for as low as one fourth of $ compared to those "newer" cards.

It is scary how development and innovation has slowed down in the past few years, as opposed to the period between 2000-2005.

I had a 1900xtx, and even 1900 x-fire. My one 3870 is as fast stock as the x-fire overclocked. Most games are much faster, since many don't make use of x-fire.... Not to mention the lower power consumption. So go ahead and drop $150 on a 1950xt if you find one, its your money.

8800GT is down to $300-$350 Au. find me an x1950xtx for under $100 au then.
