Apple Introduces New MacBook and MacBook Pro Models

Apple today introduced new models of the MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops. MacBook Pro models feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors (running at up to 2.6GHz with 6MB of shared L2 cache), larger hard drives (up to 300GB), and 2GB of memory standard in most models. They also include the latest NVIDIA graphics processors — with up to 512MB of video memory — and an innovative Multi-Touch trackpad, first introduced in MacBook Air. The three new models of the MacBook feature faster processors and hard drives: sleek white 2.1GHz and 2.4GHz models with 120GB or 160GB 5400 rpm hard drives and a black 2.4GHz model with a massive 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive. The 2.4GHz MacBook ships with 2GB of memory standard, expandable up to 4GB across the line. Available immediately, the new MacBook and MacBook Pro models start at just $1,099 and $1,999, respectively.

Apple needs to do just 3 things to DOUBLE the sales of the macbook.

1./ A second mouse button
2./ A backslash key "\"
3./ Preinstall WINDOWS

Those 3 features would probably KILL the PC laptop market in one single month.

1. Connect a mouse via usb.
2. Need a take a picture?
3. Lol, it would simultaneously kill Apple's market due to viruses.

So by the time they are readily available in my backwater, my current macbookpro will have turned 1. Upgrade time maybe?

I just wish they would use 7200 rpm drives as standard.

All that's needed is a copy of windows. Bootcamp takes care of the rest.

At least you can still use XP that way.

Vista can be installed with Boot camp as well, any Vista version for that matter.

But I see no point in using a program to install windows.

I'm not trying to start a "I hate mac and I wuv my PC" type of war like I've done a few times, but I do believe that Windows should just be able to be installed without needing to be run with boot camp

You don't run software, bootcamp is a program that creates a easy way to partition your laptop/desktop in order to install Windows (it also gives you all the drivers you need). Boot camp isn't used to run Windows, you choose what OS you are going to run when you start your laptop, just like a PC with 2 partitioned versions of Windows installed or Windows and Linux.

Software is something like Parallels or VMWARE where Windows is ran internally through the Mac OS kernel.

EDIT: When I say easy I mean easy, partitioning your HDD through boot camp is a click and drag method. You can spilt it up anyway you like. Want the Mac OS occasionally? Give the Mac OS 20Gb of space and give the other X amount to Windows, or vise versa.

Sorry but I am very dissapointed by the MBP refresh...

Why the 8600GT?, why not a 2.6GHz right of the bat for the fast 15.4 inch model?

I sold my 2.4 Core 2 Duo MBP for 1780€ and bought a 14.1 inch Asus with T9300 2.5GHz, GeForce 9500GS 512MB and the rest identical to the mac for 1334€...almost 800€ less than the Apple.

cheers

You're right.

Until there is a big enough demand for better gfx for use in games, etc; we're stuck with slower video chips. If gaming was bigger on OSX, then things would hopefully improve.

As I'm only playing WOW under OSX, the gfx chip does the bus.

A custom built pc will always be the gamer's machine of choice.

Go play around with GarageBand and other music apps. When you have music equipment you can make any sound you want with a mac. I've made some really nice electronic sounds through my guitar with my Mac.
