NZXT Unveils Tempest - Mid-tower Steel Chassis

NZXT, a company specialized in PC enthusiasts and gamers chassis, is proud to announce the NZXT Tempest. Tempest is a mid-tower steel case which weights 11.2kg without the optional 500W ATX 2.0 PSU and comes with 6 fans included: dual intake (120mm), dual exhaust (140mm) with additional side and rear fans (120mm). With Tempest you'll also get cable managment system inside the case, pre-drilled holes at the back of the case for external watercooling, and support for the E-ATX standard. “With the Tempest’s 6 120mm fans, we’ve created the Airflow King of cases. There are two top mounted 140mm faans....

This case looks very impressive, honestly. The HDD cages are more efficiently designed, holding 8 HDDs sideways mounted instead of 6 in the 900. The 900 also has really poor cable management, as well as having a cramped workspace. Just looking at it from the site, this case is very open.

Moreover, all the fan slots are used up. The grilles make sure that dust cant get in that easily as well. The right side panel has the "unremovable" spring loaded thumbscrews as well.

^ That, certainly this case is excecuted far more efficiently than the antec 900, which I presume it will compete with. Instead of wasting space, on either side of the HDDs in the 900, NZXT chose to make the hdds mounted sideways... allowing four drives.

^The thumbscrews that i mentioned

^The case seems very spacious as well...seems like if you shift those HDD cages forward (i think you can, but you'd probably have to remove the front grilles), you can install an EATX board into it. That would cover those cable management holes though.

PSU Bay looks roomy but no pre-cut holes to feed cables(the ones on the right look like they were designed for a top mount Bay), was hoping it would be SECC too but it should offer Antec a kick in the pants. Thanks malware

There is! The whole part is empty, so you'll have to feed the wires up, and use something to hold them there.

This case doesnt have the motherboard tray down to the base of the case like the RC690, so feeding the wires upwards to hide them would be the best option. Its NOT like the antec 900.

I'd use an antec NEO HE 550W, or any 80mm push pull modular PSU in this case. Its not hard to make a cover with the hole to cover the PSU wiring that may be fed. So ye

Nice case, but I still believe that the cm 690 (when on special) is the best mid tower case money can buy, followed closely by the Antec 900.

I agree with tk, this thing looks a pretty cool case to build in, only thing i can see wrong is the tiny watercooling holes, i suppose you could use them for fan cables if you were fitting a rad though (thats what i did with the pre drilled holes on my 690)

I like my Antec 900 case a lot, but my two biggest gripe are:

1) Poor cable management: There are no slots/compartment to the back panel to hide the cables. The Tempest case does.

2) Dust magnet: I find myself having to dust out my case almost every 2 months. There's always lots of dust around my hard drives, graphic card, fans, CPU cooler, PSU cables, and even inside the PSU. The two 120mm in the front just sucks in all the dust into the fat mesh holes. At least the Tempets appears to have some kind of dust filter on the fans.

Same here........being an NZXT apollo user already........having modded it somewhat with a grill instead of the smoked plastic front and removed the drive covers on the bezel to put in a 120mm fan and a second lower down blowing on the HD's; this thing is better because bigger than the apollo so less restrictive for air cooling. Only grief x2 is the HD trays are in the way (too high, but I guess one can use the lower slots first) and the side fan (as in the Apollo-those are really disruptive of air flow, and have a tendancy to keep the case in positive pressure (like a rice cooker

)and that 'aint good!!!

Whats with the cases with the PSU down south........they get hot and hot air rises up on the MOBO

i'll never warm to that??!!

I really appreciate that they've left a small amount of space between the top of the PSU and bottom of the motherboard - most cases have the bottom of the mobo sitting almost flush with the bottom of the case, and that can cause problems if you're working with an SLI or CrossFire mobo (for example, the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe).

@Grings: how big are your watercooling tubes? ;p IMO, most cases with holes for watercooling make the holes unnecessarily large - but this case should allow any tubing to fit quite snugly.

This is a damn nice looking case, and I can't wait to read the review.

5/8 o/d, they did JUST fit through the 690's holes if i took the grommets off, however they were also in completely the wrong place (as are the ones on this case) so i just drilled 2 new ones at the top above the 120mm mount

Assimilator Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: South Africa Posts: 425 (0.14/day) Thanks: 113 Thanked 56 Times in 41 Posts System Specs	I really appreciate that they've left a small amount of space between the top of the PSU and bottom of the motherboard - most cases have the bottom of the mobo sitting almost flush with the bottom of the case, and that can cause problems if you're working with an SLI or CrossFire mobo (for example, the ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe). @Grings: how big are your watercooling tubes? ;p IMO, most cases with holes for watercooling make the holes unnecessarily large - but this case should allow any tubing to fit quite snugly.
