ASUS Eee PC Desktop (E-DT) Pictured
ASUS' long-promised Eee PC desktop has finally been pictured, according to shots sent into Hot Hardware. Dubbed E-DT, Eee's desktop brother will be equipped at first with a Celeron processor similar to the Eee, but will eventually move to Intel's Atom family of CPUs once they become available. ASUS promises that the system is due to ship by April or May and sell for between $200 and $300 US. The Taiwan PC maker also aims to further lower the price of the E-DT once it is available and start selling like hot cakes.

pretty neat design that, just a shame the specs wont be anything to shout about, Apple certainly have a viable competitor.

This is pretty useless IMO. The origioal Eee PC was good cause it was a laptop and it had everything you needed for about $400, and it ran pretty good. As for this... you gotta buy everything else so you end up paying $400 or so once you get the monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse out of the way

Looks like the wii's big brother
200$ for a PC is pretty dam cheap. I hope they actually keep the price unlike the EEE laptops.

this may need some other accesories, but keep in mind how many people out there have a dead or dying prebuilt, or want to upgrade from the old P3.
Also running on linux, these things remove the whole virus risk associated with PC's for those who are... mac inclined.

Actually I think it's a good idea.. no sense browsing the internet with your 700W beast when you can do it with a ~100w machine that boots up in a few seconds.
Plus think of the things you can do with it if you have a bit of imagination and skill ![]() ICS, network firewall, and so on and so forth.

my mum is one of the people who would use this, skype is a little beyond her and she freaks out at every popup window - a clean, safe linux based OS with no hassles is perfect, coupled with a small screen (or connected to a TV)

Hmm, on second thought and with a bit of searching... I have to agree that the desktop EEEPC it's useless.
Zonbu (250$ with no obligations or 99$ with 1 year storage subscription) + an external storage harddrive and you have the ultimate green pc.Uses about 10Watts by itself so ![]() Here is a short presentation: YouTube And also the Wiki

speed and price are one thing, notice its size too - this is quit compact for hooking up to a modern HDTV as a pure netbox on the cheap.

The people that need this to fill the role it is intended for don't know how to build their own computers.
If they keep it at the sub-$300 price point, it is definitely a decent buy. The cheapest Dell is $350 for just the tower. Wal-Mart offers a $200 PC, but it has a Via C7 in it.
