gaming mice - rly?

right now I'm using an ocz equalizer and I love it, but the cable was broken by my dog. i've soldered it, but its almost dead.

I don't like the look of most of the gaming mice I see, but its about the feel. I dont have any shops near me where I can test many mice, but I know that I dont like the logitech mice, and my equalizer was a little slim on the right side. I found the revolution and it feels great. it is really worth it to get a non-gaming mouse? i'm also fairly sure its wireless which I hear has slight lag, which I cant stand. would it be a decent buy, or should I look out for a local gaming shop?

Personally, I will only buy "gaming" mice, even for a normal office PC. I just don't feel the same kinda of quality in "lesser" mice.

As for which to get? Well, it comes down to choice of feel. Personally I love the logitech mice, especially my G5, and I despise the smaller Razer mice because I get hand cramps (no good for gaming for hours on end).

Wireless, well, the G7 has eliminated that lag, and there are very few wireless mice released in the past year that still have that flaw, but there are also very few wireless "gaming" mice.

In the end, it comes down to personal opinion.

Personally I think that OCZ Equalizer is top notch. DD has a mx 518 (or he did) for sale. Last of the optical gaming mice. You might like that.

I've found Razer's products to be top notch as well . . .


Biggest advice I can give, though, when purchasing a gaming mouse - take it for a test drive. You need to feel how the mouse fits your hand, try a couple of different games; is it comfortable? Are all the buttons easy for you to access? Does it feel heavy to you? For devout gamers, we are all influenced by these variables - a product might be great for someone else, but you might find the buttons unaccessible or uncomfortable to reach. Every gamer is different. The idea is to be able to feel like the mouse isn't even there.

TBH, there's no point in purchasing a gaming mouse that you aren't 100% happy with - you won't get your monies worth . . .

lol, thats just it, I cant try it. does anyone know if there's a review site for mice with gaming specifically in mind? I would love to see something like that, and I would hope that it would also check out non-gaming mice, too.

IDK of any specific sites - TPU has quite a few reviews of different gaming mice . . . you could always google the type of mouse for reviews as well.

I run a logitech g7,i think its the same as the g5 but wireless its nice....i think microsoft highend mice are good aswell

just my opinion - not a big fan of wireless mice. I've tried a few before and they can tend to get buggy sometimes, especially if the battery is starting to get low.

yeah teh cheap wireless mice arent any good at all...but the good ones are good..g7 has two rechargable Li-ion with a usb charger

as craigo says, the G7 is a godsend. I've used a friends and its a great mouse, and the battery has lasted over a week between charges - and it literally takes 5 seconds to swap the battery over (you get two rechargeable Li-Ion batteries and a USB charger)

I don't understand these "gaming" mice. Right now I have a wireless Logitech MX3000 combo, and the laser mouse if just amazing. Great precision, and I actually like the extra weight of the batteries, plus I can't feel any lag.

yeah.."gaming" anything to do with hardware is usually just gimmicky marketing,that said i bought my mouse on the merit of supurb quality and features(the "gaming part is the luicrous high dpi setting, and its so well built i can beat people with it if they interupt my bioshock)

well, I'm either getting the mx revolution for 130 or the diamondback for 70. I think i'm getting the revolution because 1: its more comfortable and 2: the free-fly scroll wheel will be god-like using dual-elites in CSS

If he shipped via USPS you wouldn't have to be there to receive it. They would just leave it at your door.

UPS is the only one that requires giving it to somebody personally.

most "gaming" products anymore don't seem to offer any true advantages over traditional hardware except for some blingy lighting and the higher price.

Aside, though, I bought my Razer after trying it, I loved the light weight of it; the shape is very comfortable (so comfortable I went from using two fingers to three, my middle finger rests on the scroll wheel), and the buttons don't require as much effort to actuate than a typical mouse does.

As far as the DPI/polling and sensitivity rate settings, I've become pampered by the Razer; using other peoples mice just feels so slow now.

For me though, the big sell was the comfortability of the mouse, and it's weight compared to others I tried.

mx310 for the win hehe, ive had one for like 6 years and its worked great the whole time, and it just fits my hand perfectly, i had the mx510 and didnt like it one bit, only convenient thing it had going was switching resolution of the optical scanner on the fly which is neat if your an armor whore in any fps game hehe. hands down tho its the 310 even tho its way to dated i love it and own people nightly with it in bf2 and it just sits wherever i put it and doesnt move even on a slant some other mice do that which just pisses me off especialy when im trying to snipe someone :-D lazer mice just feel to twitchy same with alot of the newer mice and some of the insane resolutions they have for them ive seen some with like 2800 dpi, thats just way to freaking much. im old fashioned i guess.

while it is their company policy, after working for ups for about a year i found out those are just really guidelines most of the delivery guys will just drop it right off at the door and skip the signing even if its a 60 inch big screen, ive heard way worse than that, one time they just left a 40,000 dollar dell server on the companys curb which was then promptly smashed up by random hoodlums and returned to us with a demand for reimbursement or the company would pursue legal action, so ups just told the insurance company it fell in the loading dock in ups's warehouse, one of the reasons i left , they don't fallow much regulation and are cheats to the nth degree, hell they would take 10 minutes worth of pay out just becuase you clocked in early

lol when you see how many people are opposed to gaming mice in this thread, as opposed to the other one where every 2nd person has a logitech G5 or MX518 and loves it...

Have you people ever TRIED a gaming mouse, and if so - did you try several, or just the most expensive?
