The 790i boards are just insane price wise. I wish nVidia would just let us use SLI on any chipset, or at least Intel chipsets. But then I guess they wouldn't be able to charge us and arm and a leg for their own motherboards.

The 780i was in the mid $300 range when it first came out. The 790i will drop too within a few month.

i want to get a 780i with a q9450 for an upgrade?
the striker boards are really nice but way overpriced i'll probably stick with eVGA again. anyone have any suggestion/objections? i was also considering and x48 based system but i dont like the lack of SLi eventhough ive never used it on my 680i |

Sorry for digging up an old thread, but ive been looking for an answer i cant seam to find anywhere (perhaps its just that obvious and my 27 hour lack of sleep is just getting to me).
Anyway, does anyone know if the EVGA NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI DDR3 supports xeon versions of core 2 quad (yorkfield) processors? I have the option to purchase either the standard or the xeon versions for the same price and understand xeon chips are manufactured to a higher quality (and are better for overclocking). Will a xeon work? |
