A64 3200+ 754 vs E2160

As the title says which is faster ? id assume the E2160 even at default speeds would be faster ,but by how much ? big difference or would it be close?

I ask asa friend of mine is considering buy the board + cpu off me thats in my sig ,but they want to be sure that the E2160 would be significantly faster?

if they was to buy it their spec would be..

E2160 @1.8ghz for now with stock cooler and lousy case cooling
AsRock 775dualvsta
7600GT AGP
1gb DDR Dual channel

so would that be much better than their current 3200+ s754 ? and cheapo board they current have?

The E2160 is ridiculously faster. But if all they do is word processing and email checking, they may not notice.

ok, your comparing tech that came out around 2002/2003 to stuff that came out 2006/2007, do the math.

they are gamers ,when they can find stuff they can run

eidairman1 ,i asked because i have no idea about AMD stuff tbh ,and that the E2160 is pretty much a budget chip ,so i thought they might b reasonably close.

thanks for the helpful post anyway lol

My 2140 reached 3.5Ghz 24/7 stable at relatively high volts.

The E2140 in my HTPC sits at 3.3Ghz 24/7 stable and its the best processor I have ever bought.(price-per-performance wise)

The E2140 sits at that speed with the cheap AC Freezer 7 pro. Pretty good heatsink and really affordable too.

the Budget C2 will most definitely Eat the 754.

i have a Freezer 7 Pro on it atm ,but if/when i sell it to them ,i will be giving them the stock cooler as ill be keeping the Freezer for the next chip i fit into that PC.
The AsRock is a poor overclocker tbh and will only hit 2.5ghz max.
But it appears that even at default speed the E2160 will slaughter their current A64 ,so im sure they will be happy even with it at default speed for now.

Their case only has 2 fans at teh rear both extracting, they have no intake fan at all,so i probably wont bother to OC it for them for now, stock cooler + poor case cooling ,probably not a good idea to OC

and seeing as they only have a 7600GT oc prob wont make that much diff anyway ?

I wouldnt be surprised if the A64 bottlenecked the 7600GT.

that e2160 should run happily all day at 2.4/2.5Ghz on stock volts/cooling, then its like a e4600 minus 1mb of cache

i'll get my friend in - he's upgrading from a 4200+ dual core to an E2160, let alone a 3200+.

Also, his is doing 3GHz fine on stock cooling, albeit the motherboard is increasing the voltages automatically. I'll tell him to come here and post load temps and such.

oh yeah i forgot, the stock cooler of the 2160 is smaller. It will be a few C higher than the cooler luke is using, as his is the older full size heatsink.

That's not even a question. The E2160 totally destroys anything socket 754 or even 939.

ouch ,impressive then ,im sure if its that much faster they will be impressed with it ,altho the 7600GT will kinda let them down badly.

thanks for the replies every1.

the 7600 isnt such a letdown....get that Intel up to 3.0+GHz and watch that 7600 come back to life....I could run COD4 on high settings...it ran crysis on medium....the real and only issue with the 7600 is the 128bit bus....kills it!

If you can get a better cooler on that 7600 other than stock...it drops temps like 20*C and allows for much better OC'ing!

Xubidoo, just letting you know, my e1200 chip just absolutely murders a 3200+ 754 chip. It's like an e2140 with half the cache disabled.

that Celeron may destroy a single core A64 but it will loose to even the x2 3600 man because of low cache count, why did ya buy it

I have an E2200 which is a glorified Celery...and it PWNS my old Opty at 3.15GHz.

I have to back what Jr is pushing here....but It may have more to do with the ram than the CPU...but these little intels are impressive!

Oh yea, there's a very noticeable difference between them! I went from a 3500+ to a e2180 and there is absolutely no comparison.

You're acting like AMD 64's were 10 years ago! 754's use the same basic architecture except that the memory controller was revamped for 939. My friend had a 3800+ and a 7900GT and he was still very GPU limited. Of course, once he got an 8800GT that changed dramatically.

Pretty much in all reality the basic fact of this... There is no comparrison at all, a heavily overclocking 3200+ "might" be able to compare to a stock clocked e2160 and probably not.

I would say its fair that my opty at 3.15GHz would run superPi at close to the same times as the stock E2200. but that is 2.2GHz for the intel....and shes at 3.4GHz on air now!

you do the math...lol
