Dell ''Mini Inspiron'' Unveiled

During the D: All Things Digital conference in California, Dell unveiled its first small form factor notebook, that's yet to receive an official name. Informally named "Mini Inspiron" from the crew over at Gizmodo, the netbook will mark Dell's entry into the rapidly-growing subnotebook market currently dominated by ASUS Eee PC and MSI's Windbook. Unfortunately, more information about the "Mini Inspiron" will be unveiled later this year. For now we only have two high-resolution pictures of the red painted midget.

It's a Dell. As far as any prebuilt goes that I have ever bought, Dell is by far the worst.

Care to give arguments? Without any that opinion isn't worth much.

well Ive been a supporter of dell for a while, despite issues I have had with their products or customer services. None of the issues with items my family bought, or items I have helped purchase/fix for friends were limited to dell items, Ive had just as many issues with Sony, HP, and even Apple.
The difference is Apple took care of the issue without question, and dell did once I brought it up with someone other than a low end phone jockey. HP I stopped supporting after numerous unresolved issues with desktops a few years ago, and sony lost my business once they decided to ignore me about a ultra portable vaio that died 3 weeks out of warranty, and they would not cut me some slack, despite the issues being brought up while the unit was still under warranty. When the problem occurred I was told to try a few things and then once that didnt work they told me to "just see what happens", and then 3 weeks later the unit dies all together. Ok it was out of warranty when it kicked the bucket but any decent company would cut you some slack (especially since the issue was reported under warranty) but they neither offered a free replacement nor a discounted repair, was simply told it was out of warranty and they wanted $800 to repair it. Sent emails for various management levels and every one of them was ignored.

Its one thing to sell a product with issues (be honest, have you ever bought something that didnt have at least 1 problem at some point?) but when tech support fails to fix it, management fails to make ANY attempt to intervene, and the higher ups simply ignore you...well then you lost my business and my recommendation.

And this mini inspiron looks great, and assuming its up to snuff with price and performance I'd probably consider it myself over the eee or other units.

Judging by the size of the ports & the HUGE pencil, its about the size of my 8in portable DVD player which is small as hell. I might be interested in one of these as well. Back when I was a teacher, I had to lug around a 10lb gateway solo. I need to pay reverence to such a sin by acquiring this small beauty

Weeelll I'm not a prebuilt supporter for my personal use but my job as as a tech/counsel for SOHO users: dell reigns over many others (namely HP,Gateway,Acer, Asus,Various chainshop builds etc)........I push them often and never has a customer regretted it; just give the right counsel for the right useras with any other product.

I want one of these mini notebooks with an option for an 9500M. I'd happily pay $200 more for the option.

I think you pretty much hit it on the money.
Dell's next day onsite support still amazes me today.
I even like their phone support as you can get someone schedule for onsite in the matter of minutes as long as you can explain in technical terms why you think their is a problem, instead of the typical "My computer is slow/Non hardware related" problem calls they probably get like a thousand times a day.

That sure is one nice pencil, big too.

That is a nice laptop. I like how everything just keeps getting smaller and smaller.
