Computex 2008: PQI
PQI is showing off a set of water-proof USB flash devices. All of which are suspended in aquariums. These units come with up to 8GB and in various colors. The images show the Intelligent Drive i810 Plus, i818 and i828. PQI is also one of the first to offer a 32GB 300x Compact Flash card. You will also find some unique flash drives which come in combination with eSATA connectivity. This should give you better transfer rates and allow for use as a traditional hard drive instead of a removable storage medium.
![]() Hit the "Read full story" link for a look at their DDR2 and DDR3 memory ![]() The Turbo Series DDR3 modules from PQI are available up to 1600 MHz CL9-9-9-24. There are three different kinds of heatspreaders, depending on the speed these DIMMs at set at. All these DDR3 kits are available in 4GB configurations as well. On the notebook side, PQI is displaying a 1333MHz DDR3 SODIMM for the next generation notebooks. ![]() Their DDR2 offering maxes out at a very respectable 1200 MHz and CL5-5-5-15. This kit comes with up to 4GB as well and uses the same heatspreader as their fastest DDR3 memory. Source: PQI |

Sweet, but I try to keep my flash drives away from kids, key chains, & aquariums. That e-sata interface better be pretty rigid. I still have the other end of an e-sata cable that's stuck in the port

So are the USB drives supposed to be sealed then??? Because otherwise being waterproof is nothing new in a flash drive... I'm sure many people have had theirs survive a trip through the washing machine. As long as you let the USB drive dry out before using, they're pretty much all water proof (besides any internal corrosion on contacts inside the unit that may occur).

I personally would love a waterproof flash drive. I use my flash drives in the harshest conditions (school), and need it to be fail proof.

I own one of the ones in the first picture. My only complaint is that the clicking mechanism that would have the contacts click into place closed or open is broken. So basically it slides in and out of the housing and I'll often shake it back and fourth to annoy people quite successfully. Other than that it's been through the washing machine I think twice now and it's still going strong.
