lol wth? W1zzard did you do this review just to justify the awesomeness of the 4850 indirectly?

Well the 9800gtx and 4850 are neck and neck. They are both sitting at $200 aswell. So basically it depends on which one you can find at a heavier discount.

I guess "rebate warfare" is going to be on the rise again.

Weird, I read that the 9800 GTX was going to be priced at $229...

Good review though W1zzard!

Very nice review. And damn, those are some nice overclocks, I wish you would include overclocked performance numbers too W1z, but I know you are a busy guy and that takes time, but I bet the overclock on this 9800GTX pushes it beyond the performance of the 4850.

I would like to see both OC'ed and compared. I bet they would still be neck and neck though.

I don't know, W1z seems to have had problems getting good overclocks out to the HD4850, certainly nothing nearly as good as the overclocks on the 9800GTX. Though, like he said in this review, the tools for overclocking are already matured for the 9800GTX, and not for the HD4850.

Though I don't think the tools improving will really help the HD4850's overclocking numbers, I just think ATi did a really good job of binning the cores, though maybe volt-modding will help.

agreed newtekie1. Not to mention, the chips of the powercolor oc'd well, but MSIs didnt really budge. Im sure another run of them will fix that. Awesome review as usual W1zz and the numbers for the OC are simply amazing. I tell you, Nvidia and their partners use the best of the best on GDDR3.

I agree, thats what worries me about the HD4850 overclocking. If it was simply a "tools aren't right for the job" issue, why did one card overclock better than the other?

its great to see such powerful cards competing neck and neck at the 200$ price point!

anyone who says a 4850 or 9800GTX is a weak card doesn't know what they're talking about!

this is by far the best value for FPS i have seen, ever.

8800GTX class performance at a fraction of the cost.

Bravo to both companies.

well true but even better are the 8800gts cards at 176.00 and 159.00 after rebates since they are 9800gtx cards aswell, but good point

Lets hope they OC like the hd3850s did. Going from 668mhz to 850mhz+ (obviously reliant on vmods though).

After all, Im pretty sure the hd4850 has more in common with that than phenoms .

Power draw from the new 4800s is pretty bad apparently, and the heat output is even worse.

It's odd to see Nvidia cards winning in that department, yet it might just be what helps people decide between the 9800 or the 4850.

The Performance Per Watt on the HD4850 is better than the 9800GTX, but the new 9800GTX+ should be a little better in the Performance Per Watt area thanks to the 55nm GPU.

Wonder if there's any good coolers that fit these, guess my zalman fc-zv9 won't exchange heheh! Still think these 9800gtx are a better buy than the 8800gt's at this point. Sure hope I figure out the shader clock ocing easy, learning curve from my 7950gt...
