Palit Radeon Cards

So how are they, i always hear positives about the GF cards, just wondering how the R cards are, Im really thinking of a Visiontek 4870 for my next build (EVGA equivalent- Company wise)

If all you need is a plain 48xx card then you can get those now and Palit has them available.

For Palit's OWN designed cards the run down looks like...

4850- second week of August
4870- two weeks after that
the next "I can't comment on unreleased product" product- mid-September +/- 2 weeks

These are not reference designs and will feature all that is good about Palit stuff. Wicked cooling high over clock (I'm thinking 700MHz or higher on the 4850), all new power circuit will allow for better OC/cooler operation and so on.

Gainward picked up the ATI line.

Yes, we should have a 1GB version of the 4850. The 4870 is still in engineering. It may have 1GB but they haven't decided whether or not it will be DDR5 if they do 1GB.

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but is Gainward a seperate company, but owned by Palit, or Palit under a different name, or some other relationship?

Palit owns several companies including Gainward and Xpertvision.

However they all operate as unique business entities which means I don't have any special relationship with them nor they with me.

It's really kind of cool how it all operates. Rather than create some kind of giant single brand with tons of employees and expenses, they keep things simple and efficient and use a central facility for manufacturing.

Gainward, for example, has a long history of doing some pretty cool stuff. That's not broken so Palit doesn't fix it. They just keep on rocking.

When you say a central facility for manufacturing, do you mean the cards end up being the same (IE PCB design etc.), but are then repackaged and rebranded as their respective companies, or something else?

Sometimes they are, sometimes not. Each company is free to have them designed as they see fit and sometimes something one group wanted gets pulled into another group.

Are there any concerns from Palit or is it a pre planned objective to being late to the non reference HD48xx party, since Saphhire already launched a non-reference HD4850 yesterday .

Got a link to that Sapphire? I wanna see what they changed.

And I can attest to the quality of Palit's non-reference designs. So far, it has taken weeks of abuse at 1.7-1.8Vgpu (stock is 1.1V), to kill any of my 8800GT Super+ cards. The ones I have left run at 1.55V 24/7 so far.

That's not non-reference. It just has a factory OC and a Zalman cooler. The PCB is still reference, which is what we are referring to.

I can't wait to get my hands on those Palit designs. :drools:

well it can be considered as partial non-reference, since it doesn't come with the reference cooler . Yes PCB may be same, but Palit will do better. I think Palit Guy was talking about this kind of overclock when he said we will not believe how this card overclocks .
