Water Cooling Or Good Fan Heat Sink

Hi all im not overly wanting to get watercooling but I do want to overclock my 9850 phenom..So is there any good hs fans out there that would bring temps down enouph to do a good overclocking ? my phenom idles at 52c and load gets up to eround 64c..and yes ive used different greece and whats on there now is arctic something er other..Ok can some one help me out here..Thanks/;'';Steve

Im guessing your on stock cooling? just get a good cpu heatsink what socket is that cpu?

its socket am2+ ..and it is stock I have a m3a32-mvp deluxe mobo..
would a good cpu heatsink bring temps down even if the temp is really damn hot in my house its gets like +40c in here

I like either the Xigmatek r1283 with the retention bracket, or a Zalmann 9700. Both work wonderfully on my M3a32mvp.

i wouldnt recommend watercooling unless you have a decent ammount of money and space - i purchased a cheap kit known as the thermaltake bigwater 735, absolute waste of time. It cooled fine, dont get me wrong, but i hated the looks of it because i couldnt mount the radiator internally (damn antec) so i had tubes everywhere. It just looked . . . well, messy. I dont discourage watercooling, but i just think that money wise your better off buying an air cooler, like a xigmatek or something.

Just my two cents haha.

I cant get the xig here but I can get the Zalmann 9700...so I think I will get it if it will cool temps in a 40c temp in my house..Steve

the 9700 is a good looking cooler - i was originally going to get one but i have too much blue going on in my case. Have you seen the Nvidia limited edition one? its silver with green LED's *ooooohhhhh!* haha. Looks nice too.

good choice man, you going with a green led look with your case? I think green would pwn and it looks like you like green lol. I think this 9700 would look the best in your case http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...=ZALMAN%20TECH ofc its green though so in order to compliment it nicely you would need green 120mm fans.

ya for sure I will have the green antec 900 leds with green led on the zalman..will look sweet..

Any air cooler will not cool below ambient temps, so if the room is 40*C, that is the lowest the CPU would idle at!

One thing you need to do is control ambient temps in the room where your PC resides in. When you figure out a way to lower ambient temps in that room you have some control over your CPU temps.

When obtaining a better HSF and decent thermal compound you can further reduce CPU temps if the OEM HSF and thermal compound isn't effective. But the 1st thing IMO are ambient temps. I have found that an ideal room temp of 25C or lower is ideal. If you are not able to lower ambient temps a new HSF & thermal compound may decrease temps from an inefficient setup but it will never be lower then ambient temps.
