Intel to Release New Chips this Monday the 11th

Intel will release four mid-thru-high range desktop processors tomorrow. These CPUs will be based on the 45nm Yorkfield and Wolfdale cores. Two new Core 2 Quad models, the performance segment Q9650 and the mainstream segment Q9400 are dressed up. The Q9650 has identical parameters to the Core 2 Extreme QX9650 barring the locked FSB multiplier of 9x. The Q9400 is an improvement over the current Q9300. It has a 2.66 GHz core clock speed with a total of 6 MB L2 cache and an FSB multiplier of 8x.

With the Core 2 Duo, there is a top of the line dual core chip, the E8600 which comes with 3.33 GHz core speed, 6 MB of L2 cache and an FSB multiplier of 10x. There's also a mid-range offering, the E7300 that comes with 2.66 GHz core speed, 1066 MHz FSB and an FSB multiplier of 10x. It has 3 MB of L2 cache.

Retailers such as TheNerds.net are listing the Q9650 at US $576, the same site has the Q9400 listed at $284.

The 9400 looks GOOD! I may pick one up when the price point drops around $200.

More like the Q9550 is looking good (over the Q9400). It drops to the price of what the Q9450 was before it left the market.

One would think it should be a better OC'ing chip than the 7200.

With a higher multiplier at our disposal, yes.

Only .5x more. 10x multi for the E7300. I might trade my 7200 for a 7300

That .5 made all the difference between E8400 and E8500.

Man...say what you want about Intel, but they really are on top of the game this time. They're attacking everyone with everything they've got...I hope Larrabee will be as impressive as their current CPU's. I love price wars!

Im impressed with Intels constantly release of chips and I have no problem telling ya'll that Im an AMD/ATI fanboy! I wish AMD would do something similar, though not as flooded. Intel gives you a choice/compromise between uber extreme/price and budget. I love it.

That E7300 should buff heads with the E8200 when OC comes to play. I'll wait for revisions or steppings. Maybe wait for the upcoming 1366 socket CPUs that they will conquer the gaming world.

I might just have to dump my Q6600 for the Q9650, it is the chip I have been waiting for. If the price is right that is, I think I will wait until it is in the $300 range like I did with the Q6600 though. It will probably be my last CPU upgrade for a long time as it ends the 775 era, and I'm not going to be jumping to a new motherboard for at least another year.

Its kind of sad that the 775 generation is going to end soon, there is still a lot of room for improvement in the Core 2 family. However that won't change 1366's low power consumption and thermal ratings along with god-like architecture space. But lets look on the bright side, we could finally dominate Crysis just like we did with Quake 3 lol. Also the fact that Intel could create that true quad-core solution that AMD created with the Phenom, without nuking the chips. In the meantime, I'll be observing the upcoming AM3 sockets before I move on in the next CPU generation as I've heard AMD has finally thought about adding more cache in the Phenom when they achieve in creating AM3. They couldn't do so in the past due to risks of nuking the chip.

you know what ...thanx a lot but
i think i'll stay with my G0 Q6600 3.6 Ghz 8mb C for a while...
Cause this baby still rocks! in my view.. and i dont see that much diffrence from a Q6600 G0 to these new 45nm 9300,9400-even 9550 is not that far away from my Monster.
SO I guess i'll wait for the new generation of Quads like the Nehalem..Bloomfield models.
I think its a wise decision ...

anyone want a 775 socket CPU?

LGA1366 Nehalem vs LGA775 Core 2 comparison

Intel X58 chipset and new socket 1366 processor socket. The spacing of the heatsink mounting holes is different than with LGA775 processors, so older heatsinks are not compatible.
