Pentium D 950 or E2180?

Which one should I choose? I can't find reviews for the pentium d 950 anywhere. I hear it's more overclockable than the e2180.

pentium D 950 has 4mb of cache but is a hot chip and runs slow and the pentium E2180 is a beast of a overclocker ive had 3.6ghz out of mine in the media pc down stairs even with the 1mb of cache its a nippy little chip id go for the e2180 as cpc say its a hidden conroe

you'd be lucky to get 4.4ghz out the p950D on air check out tomshardware and look at the cpu charts and compare the stock readings and then get a average reading oc from a e2180 and see what that compaires to hope this has helped

I looked at a review and it's not worth the $50. I'll probably buy an OEM e2180. Thanks for the info!

At stock speeds the e2180 is faster, probably not noticeably faster though. Personally I would get e8xxx series if your motherboard supports it, they are heavy overclockers and even at stock they are more than fast enough for another 3 years or so.

Edit: remember the Pentium D series came out four years ago and the e2180 wasn't that powerful on release two years ago and I would avoid both CPUs unless overclocking is your only intention.

Edit 2: your BIOSTAR P4M80-M4 478 motherboard will not support the e2180 as you will need socket 775.

Nothing wrong with an E2180 even at stock. It would still run the Pentium D into the ground.

Between the two which was the original question,i would also say the 2180.The pentium D will be ok if you have a cold room.

well its just 2 p4 welded together netburst old slow but really fun for overclocking until you kill it

e2180 should nail it

I only have 100 dollars to spend on a CPU plus 1gig of ram and I won't have another source of income until next summer. If I had the money I'd get a quad instead.

I ripped up my case to get better airflow lol. I have 2 fans for intake and 2 fans for exhaust (intake in front) soon getting several more fans to stick in front just for fun lawl.

The last i read, it was due at the end of August.

It's expected to retail around $84. e7200 costs just over $100, so if it doesn't break the bank, I'd recommend that one.

E5200 looks like a rebadged E7200. They're both the same core and same cache size. Do we know if they're different yet? XD

E5200: 2.5Ghz, 800FSB, 2mb L2 cache

it appears that it does not have SSE4. which is a bit odd, guess we'll have to wait til its release to confirm that.

i'm guessing the E5200 will overclock well, just like the E2xxx series did.

Between the two, I would go for the E2180. It has a decent multiplier and is very overclockable based on most reviews I've seen, although some reported few poor overclokers here and there.

I was thinking of picking up an E2180 or even E2160 for my media box. Decent value overall, although if you can get the cash, you can find used 65nm quads like Q6600 for $150 on various trade boards.

I'd like to go with the e2180 (because it's cheaper lol). It'll do fine running WoW and oblivion right? My celeron D did massive bottlenecking. I was getting 35fps on low with my x1800xt...

(I looked up reviews. The 512mb version gets 60fps at 1600x1200 with 4x fsaa and 16x HQAF in WoW with a decent AMD Dual core)

Question. If you don't have a cpu in the slot will the board still power on and the fans start? I'm thinking and hoping not.

Is the extra 20 dollars worth paying to get an e2180 over an e1200? I might get an e1200 if it isn't significantly slower.

The fans will start up but the computer will not display anything on screen. Why does it matter?

Most definately not worth the extra money if you're overclocking. If your running stock then pay the extra money.

I'll probably overclock but not very far. The mobo isn't taking power. I must've put the power button in the wrong spot/backwards. I'm ordering the e2180 today I think.

I didn't plug in the reset button and the LED's in the front. =P

Is it a bad idea to take 4 pin fans and hook them up to 2 pin molex? (5v) Will they just go slow?
