If you were referring to my post, I did not think starting a new thread to make a suggestion about this thread made much sense. After reading the original intent of this thread, the point was that the title to this thread invites negative comments about TPU, not positive ones. That's all.

Just trying to bring some positive energy back to TPU.

No it was just a general comment. As this thread is primarily to discuss what the moderators do right/wrong.

I would tend to agree, considering how the majority of users make use of this thread for such purpose . . .

but the title of the thread is not "what's wrong with our moderators?" it's "what's wrong with our forums?"

This is one thing I have a problem with on TPU...immaturity shining right on through imo. Maybe there's more to the situation here than not, but I know JC did not start this thread for the direction it went...it's just dissapointing to see a couple members become so disrespectful and turn on other members...this is a tech forum, a place of help with a very kickass community...then we get threads like this that turn into complete rubbish.

Not saying they can truly be stopped or those users should be banned, I'm just saying for me this is probably one of the very few issues I have with this place. This one only caught my attention because I was agreeing with JC's OP and then read on to see the thread take off into a different direction. I know not much to be done here, and it's one of those things with diverse communities, can't be avoided, can't really be stopped (right away that is)...but I figured it'd be a perfect demonstration.

I agree here as well - there's a difference between kidding around and ragging on someone in good fun, but then there's the beligerent immaturity where someone is bullied because no one else can stand a specific user(s), or said user(s) couldn't heed moderator warnings and results in the closure of a thread.

There isn't any excuse for such behaviour, we can all act like adults here (that goes for both the youngin's and the elderly).

In contrast to the other side of the arguement, though . . . I think that outlashing stems from frustration more than anything else. There are a couple of specific users who do make some extremelly offensive and unenlightened posts, but that doesn't give anyone the right to rip on them because their views differ and they're frustrated - nor does it give the user in question the right to rip on others for their beliefs as well.

Personally, I think this disrespect amoungst users in regards to their opinions and beliefs has gone to far recently, on top of the growing level of immaturity. We're a large forum, there's absolutely no way we're all going to agree with each other all of the time. Sometimes we just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that. But, unchecked, comments will start becoming more offensive and degrading.

I can't say I'm not 100% guilty of it, I know I've gotten ahead of myself on occassion, we're all only human as it is . . . but, if we all can't start debating and discussing "hot" topics like civilized adults, I'd have to recommend that such topics be completely striken from GN altogether.

I honestly did not mean to start anything, nor would I ever question the W1ZZ, but I would personally think if this thread was for complaints against mods solely, then perhaps that might be better handled through PM's and not publicly.

Mods are selfless people who give their time to moderate lots of (let's face it) immature people who need moderating. If that is the reason for this thread, then, THANKS to all of you Mods and Staff for putting up with all of the immense Sh*t you put up with. You guys are awesome, sincerely.

To have a thread to complain about mods solely seems counterproductive to the cohesiveness of ANY website in my book.

No offense W1zz, but these guys are great, and if people have a gripe, let them air it privately, because 90% of the time it is trivial BS.

Please create a thread for positive constructive insight for this thread, or I shall be forced to create one.

We all know what that means! My average thread life is about 2 weeks if I'm lucky! Anyway, the mods here put up with a hell of a lot, and my hat is off to them. Keep up the good work guys! (And THANKS!) For the few who have cost us so much in the last month, be glad I do not carry a banstick.

I coudnt agree more a number of posts here really would of been better done in pm with this thread used when completely nessasary to do so. The one prob with a thread like this would be if a visitor sees it would be there must be alot of problems here when most of the time its trivial bs that can be sorted out by pm.

I'd agree as well . . .

but, in light of a couple of issues that have come up recently (i.e. the immaturity, "hot" topic threads becoming spotted with objectionable posts, lack of respect towards other users opinions view points), I think these are community issues that can only be dealt with properly by the community as a whole. These issues are too touchy for any dingle mod to take care of by themselves, and all viable options would leave the mods/admins in a situation where they will definitely come across as wicked overlords to the majority of the commoners.

If we address the issue as a community, everyone is involved in the decision making, which leaves no one but the community as a whole to blame for those users who wouldn't be happy with any decision. Besides, issues such as thus, only help to strengthen the community as a whole, and really only demonstrates our willing to help and work with each other . . . an aspect of "community" that many other forums lack.

The main problem is that causes all these problems is people are not mature.

One problem is sarcasm cannot be distinguished on the internet. I was joking around with one member, we were both having a good time, and then a mod PM'd me, and said to "stop the war." Half of all these problems we think we have are just misunderstandings.

The PM system is not even meant for people to fling bananas at each other privately, it's in place so that you could contact specific members and take their opinion on things. When I was active in the most awesome clubhouse of TPU (jk) X-Fi Support Syndicate, I would get PM's each day from people seeking sound-card help, who don't happen to use an X-Fi. Why? because they thought I have a high know-how with sound-cards. Same as I would buzz say DanTheBanjoman if I sought some (quick) workstation/RAID/Networking help (that didn't require starting a thread). Do use PM system to your advantage, don't waste it (or your time) on flinging bananas, for this very reason you're provided with a 1000 PM storage, higher than what some forums offer.

Nobody is getting anything good out of an argument / fight. People seek recreation on this website. They come here to learn new things, interact with people from all walks of life, all parts of the world, to share their knowledge, or even to share a joke before they log off. Ask this to yourself: "Would I rather log out on a happy note?"

In my opinion, these forums have been one of if not the best forums I've ever joined. I don't think there is nothing wrong at all and my experience here cannot get any better so far.

Thanks to the MODS who are doing a great job, and to the great people here as well for this super pleasant experience.

I totally agree with you.

Although I haven't came across this case here with anybody yet, I have in other forums, and the same thing applies everywhere. Written sarcasm is hard to distinguish, and it is true my friend. I couldn't have said it better.

"What's wrong with our forums?"

How about the fact nobody seems to be allowed a sense of humor around here these days?

Or

How about people picking up "warnings" and "infractions" without being given chance to even explain their side of things?

I also see mods can make FS threads, no pics or heatware \ ebay links etc, yet long standing members get bitched at if they don't post pics but say in their original post pics will be uploaded shortly.

Very much seems like one rule for members another for mods. As mods, isn't it their resposibility to set an example?

People have all kinds of humor, some do and some don't think some of the stuff I come across is funny, if they don't find it funny whatever others do. Its interesting to see you also pick the least important point and have absolutely no comment on any of the others.

You want me to reply to your "I got warned, boohoo"-post? If you want to tell your side of whatever story, PM the mod in question, if this person won't hear you out contact a supermod.

i've had jokes that went bad here too, you simply edit the post and remove it. If your ego cant take it, dont take the risk by posting such material in the first place.

Or at least identify who you think is bias. Like said in the 1st post, if you don't feel you can publicly post it - contact W1zzard directly.

And also i respect what the mods do - i have noticed i got a post deleted. I'm not entirely sure why, to be honest thanks to work i don't even know what day it is. But the fact that it got deleted, means it got deleted by a mod. If they don't see it fit to be posted then hell i'm not going to get petty over a single post. Knowing the mood i've been in lately it was probably just deserved.

So you turn a "serious" passing comment into a joke?

And the mods here are meant to take you serious how...?
