well - you still get to keep those stars in your pocket, right?
I mean, living on TPU lends just as much credibility, I think, as our thanks system does. New users see a high-post count and figure you must've spent a lot of time contributing to have that many posts.

If you really think you need extra things to tell people that you're a badass in a sense, then I feel you should keep yourself busier helping people than worrying about a "rank". Sure the thanks system is cool, I do my best to thank helpful users as many others do. A rank system imo is pointless on TPU, no sense in it...that'll just bring one more thing for the immature users to bicker and flame about.
Keep TPU as it is, and the users can work around it and for it. TPU has given us all a kickass community, and a few cool gimmicks like the multi-quote and thanks systems. Really if you feel you need more, try it out on other forums, if you like it, see if the other aspects of that forum makes it worth staying at. I don't mind some change, but I feel the mods are doing a good job, there are a few users that need a swift kick in the ass as usual , and there's no need for adding features to make users have more status around here...if you do a good job helping others, you will be referred to, you get the custom quotes at 5k posts, the thanks counts, what more is really needed? We have too much as it is.

Instead of making a point system or MVP type system, how about us people who like to help in certain areas just putting those areas in our sigs?

If only .gif sigpics were allowed, I was going to suggest to W1z a certain widget that converts entries from a RSS feed (in this case, our news feed) into a signature pic. Imagine news headlines flashing on my sigpic a-là news flashes.

On the Experts Exchange forum they have a system where the OP can choose one of the posts as the "accepted answer". While this has some merit, I think that it has the effect of killing a thread. Some MVP user comes along and answers the question correctly and then the tread dies as everyone thinks all is solved.
The problem is that it eliminates all future discussion in the thread on other possible solution or perhaps even newfound solutions that work better than the answer. I am all for leaving things as they are and not identifying people as "more knowledgable". Many times I have seen someone sign up on TPU for the first time just to give input on a problem for which they found a solution. These people are no less valuable than someone who is rated as an MVP or whatever.

^Agreed^. Things seem fine the way they are. Why mess with perfection?

I only hope they still are the way they have been. I'm awfully pissed at a few members in general at the moment. In my opinion, and from what I've seen, the finest person who works on these forums has quit. (I pray it's not true) Apparently people don't seem to realize that behind a moderator/staff/administrator title there is a human being that can be lifted up and brought down just as easily as any member here. I know this thread was started due to problems with moderators and this was more than a year ago. Man, how things change... While most members are great people here, there are a select few that only want to cause trouble, insult people, and be genreal assholes overall. As you can see, there's nay a moderator ever here anymore. Why? Most likely because they are sick of the bullshit of having to deal with these problem members, which in turn turns them into babysitters for people who obviously should stay away from social environments. That's not why I'm here. I'm here to help and learn. Isn't that the point? Anyways, I'm done being nice, as the bitterness of a select few jerks has gotten to me. I await the day that these pricks are gone and TPU is once again a better place. That's why I am a moderator, to try my best to make the forums a nice place for people to come to. I urge everyone to be vigilant against those who try to do just the opposite and make TPU a better place than it's ever been. Bless you all.

I'm not taking any bait. Just getting something off my chest. The bourish behavior doesn't bother me as much as members/staff getting hurt.

Thanks, Erocker, I appreciate your candid response.
Let me just say this. In every internet forum environment you are going to have users that range from totally respectable to total jackasses. It is unavoidable. The staff/mods must have a thick enough skin to deal with the asshats and not take it personally. If someone got hurt, they took it personally. One should never do this if they are moderating a public board. TPU is the finest forum I've ever been on. I think that we can all help to seperate the chaff from the wheat.

His posts have been informative, they've had information in them. In that post, he expressed his feelings relative to the topic at hand and informed us of a good reason why moderators dont hang out in this thread as much anymore. I call that an intelligent post. Your posts are either two sentences long insulting people, or 10 sentences long finding convoluted ways of insulting people.

i would LOVE separate sub forums in the FS section. IE mobo's/cpu's,cooling.video cards,case/case hardware, ect.
makes it about 500% easier when looking for certain products. and maybe install itrader? |
