GTX260 Tri SLI - anyone try?
Anyone tried GTX260 Tri SLI? I have been hunting the forums for some time but have yet to see anyone with results. Tri SLI with the GTX280 seems popular enough, however. But, for $690 after rebates, the GTX 260 Tri SLI seems a decent option to try. I have seen plenty of dual card but no three card results.

He has a 30" monitor. Every fps counts.

Anyway, here's the only review I could dig up. Seems that the third card can make a difference.

Thanks for the link. It looks like it scales well, actually, from SLI to Tri SLI. 6000 additional GPU in Vantage (16K to 22K). Not too bad. I think I will pick up another to try it out. I will report back with performance scaling at 2560 x1600.

Well, if it is anything like the GTX 280 scaling, Tri SLI makes MORE sense than SLI, especially at 2560 x 1600 resolutions. Hard to justify $1200 on video cards but $700 does not hurt so bad. That is what many folks parted with for a single GTX 280 at launch.

would be a waste of money to use tri sli since your cpu wil be the buttleneck

Not at 2560x1600 and a quad CPU at 4.0 GHz 24x7, CPU is not in any way a bottleneck. That's just an excuse for those who do not want to go the multi-GPU path.

The architecture is the most modern architecture out on the intel side, how is it outdated? Because it is 65nm instead of 45nm? Clock for Clock the difference is unnoticeable. WolfDale is not a new architecture.
http://www.techspot.com/review/85-in...roe/page6.html See here, the difference in gaming between the two is virtually identical clock for clock.

When Nehalem is available we can talk, but until then, it isn't outdate.

Well, here is ground zero before the GTX 260 cards arrive later this week.
3DMark Vantage - 15831 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=373643 And, I will see how they scale on the system with the CPU at 2.66, 3.0, 3.2, 3.6 and 4.0 GHz with the quad versus 8800 GTX SLI in a couple of games from 1280x1024 through 2560x1600. |

@Morgoth
No offense but you are one to speak of bottleneck?! @HeavyH20 Go for it! You have the monitor and the CPU power to do it. |

How many times does it need to be stated? CPU bottlenecks do not happen at very high resolutions on ANY quad core, regardless of clock.

@2560x1600 i bet 3fps makes a difference when you only get 20fps to begin with hehe
Quote:
first off SHUT UP secondly your opinions on whats a bottleneck what works and whats good are just flat out stupid @2560x1600 his cpu WONT bottleneck if you have any idea about computers you would know that the only place that a 4ghz quad is going to bottleneck is @640x480 which happens to bottleneck EVERY cpu in existence. if you want to keep posting crap be my guest but do it on another forum cause everyone here is tired of this i love nahalem everything else is crap BS so just STFU go hide in a cave and wait for it to release and when its no were near as powerful as you expect and conroe beats it in tests i for one am going to laugh at you. oh and to finish this off your starting to sound like some of the "smart" people in geek squad hehe hehe me to

Well, it is going to be a bit of a delay. Switched out the three regular GTX 260 cards for three GTX 260 cards with 216 shaders. Here next Tuesday. Ah, the wait....
