System Specs

Bench tested 3 Computers at home, with a 9800GT OverClocked Version.

Last week i built a computer for a m8 and he wanted me to test it out and see how it performed, mainly against my other friends computer, so i said ok and got his comp and installed a few games and did a few bench tests on it to see how it went against my other m8s computer, and i also put mine in this test as well but used my m8s 8800GT to see how my old spec comp went against these two similar spec machines.

Ok all tests were done the same and was using the same resolution (1440/900), settings, everything etc, only thing changed for the two tests on each game was the AA was turned on and off, otherwise everything else was set to MAX settings that the game would allow me to go.

Ok ill list each computer from the one that my m8 wanted to test out, the new one i just built to my computer, but the specs of mine are shown on the side there <

Comp 1:
AMD X2 5200 2.7GHz (Brisbane core)
Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB 5-5-5-18
9800GT 512MB XpertVision Sonic (factory overclocked)
Seagate 500GB HDD 3Gb/s

Comp 2:
AMD X2 5000 2.6GHz (Windsor Core)
Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3
Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX 2GB 4-4-4-12
8800GT 512MB XpertVision
Seagate 500GB HDD 3Gb/s

Comp 3:
Is my comp as shown on the side< but with the 8800GT installed.

First up we have the inbuilt benchmark for Company of Hero's

Comp 1:
Average FPS : 81.7
MAX FPS : 192
MIN FPS : 43

AA Turned on
Average : 82.8
MAX : 185
MIN : 41.3

Comp 2 :
Average FPS : 100
MAX : 195
MIN : 57

AA Turned on
Average : 89
MAX : 184
MIN : 53

Comp 3 : MINE
Average FPS : 107
MAX : 218
MIN : 53

AA Turned on
Average : 101
MAX : 193
MIN : 53

Next up i ran F.E.A.R same as before, using the inbuilt bench tester.

Comp 1 :
Average FPS : 87
MAX : 222
MIN : 39

AA Turned on 4x
Average : 61
MAX : 130
MIN : 32

Comp 2 :
Average FPS : 86
MAX : 217
MIN : 38

AA Turned on 4x
Average : 57
MAX : 121
MIN : : 31
Comp 3 :
Average FPS : 92
MAX : 210
MIN : 43

AA Turned on 4x
Average : 58
MAX : 122
MIN : 31

Next i did a test in Crysis, it was a bit hard to do this one, since it don't have a bench tester in it far as i know, so i did a short walk along the beach with all the comps, the same path over and over with all three comps with AA on and off and measured the MAX and MIN FPS of each computer. All three had settings set to high. I also did a FPS count when i just stood there and didn't even move, all three comps in the same spot. This is what i got.

Comp 1 : No AA
MIN FPS : 30
MAX : 36
AA Turned on 4x
MIN : 18
MAX : 22
Standing Still
MIN : 39
MAX : 45
Standing Still AA 4x
MIN : 24
MAX : 24

Comp 2 : No AA
MIN FPS : 31
MAX : 36
AA Turned on 4x
MIN : 19
MAX : 22
Standing Still
MIN : 42
MAX : 43
Standing Still AA 4x
MIN : 24
MAX : 25

Comp 3 : No AA
MIN FPS : 33
MAX : 36
AA Turned on
MIN: 18
MAX : 22
Standing Still
MIN : 45
MAX : 46
Standing Still AA 4x
MIN : 24
MAX : 24

I also did a quick test in UT3 with Patch 3 installed, and ran the same Deathmatch on all three computers with same amount of bots etc, everything set to MAX and measured the MIN and MAX FPS, only thing is UT3 seems to hit a MAX of 62FPS =/ so all computers hit the MAX aloud, but the MIN was a little different. This is what i got.

Comp 1:
MIN FPS : 35
MAX : 62

Comp 2:
MIN : 34
MAX : 62

Comp 3:
MIN :32
MAX :62

As you can see from that ^ there wasn't much difference in all three computers for UT3.

I did do a test on Supreme Commander but it was a very basic test, lets just say Comp 1 won there by almost 8 FPS over Comp 2 and even more over Comp 3, but its more of a CPU based game, so no surprise there.

Anyway thats all i did in the day, it took almost all day lol, but i enjoyed it, and thats the best i could do just here at home with what i had, hope you all find this interesting, or maybe even boring, but i thought id post what i scored up on here to all to see.

I must admit that Comp 1 with the 9800GT OverClocked GPU didn't do as good as i thought, and it was on a Fresh install were the others were not. But over all it seems to do better in more heavy Games like Supreme and Crysis.

And most of all i was very happy to see my old beast sticking to the newer Dual Cores, in some cases Kiking butt lol. Just shows you not all games these days are multi threaded as yet, or if so there not alot. If you have a single Core CPU like mine, your still good to go with games of today

Please feel free to comment

Thanks for reading.

Well 9800GT is a rebranded 8800gt afterall, so there can't really be much performance differencies..

This is true, and a big shame =/ I think most of the 9 series are pretty bad, not a big improvement from 8 at all, if any....Only thing is i found the 9800 GT was cheaper then the 8800GT weird =/

Also keep in mind that the 9800GT supports stuff like Hybridpower, while the 8000-series doesn't. So there are some differences, but from a performance POV, there's not much increase, that is true.

Since you informed me of this, i just checked in. Well clearly 8800GT is as 9800GT, the difference is minor, max 5 %. Can you run benchmark on HD3870 DDR4 and 7600GT?

The funny thing for me especialy is that i recently owned a very similar PC - same Gigabyte mobo, same AMD CPU, it was only 9600GT in my case.. So...

UT3, Crysis, F.E.A.R and COH - great choises. Do more!

Know problem, i hope the benchmarking is up to your standards? as its the best i can do with what i have here.

The best i can do at the moment is run my 3850, 7600GT, 8600GT, and a 4850 in two machines, one machine is mine of course as stated on the side< and the other is my brothers machine, it has the 4850 in it, its the same spec as comp 1 ^ or 2 but with a 4800 X2 installed running at 2.5GHz. But i will tell you the specs when i do the test and for everyone else as well to see. I might be able to get comp 2^ back for a run, but id have to ask my m8.

I just did a benchmark test on my rig with the 3850 in fear, everything set to MAX and a rez at 1280*1024 and i got MIN FPS 27, Avg 69 FPS, MAX 168 FPS, not bad hey? i was shocked lol.

What similar spec PC did ya own? like mine or one of the others in my listing?

Anyway just let me know and ill try to do some testing ether later today, but mostly 2morro id say.

Sure thing i can do a test with my brothers X2 4800 with his 4850 and see what it gets, as long as it runs the dam test as the 3850 will refuse to run any of the 3Dmarks sorry, and i have no idea why, just stops responding

I will run the test using 9.4 drivers ok?

There is a bench tester for Crysis...actually there are 2. One for the GPU and the other for the CPU.

I'm not at home right now, so I couldn't tell you exactly where to look, but you shouldn't have any issues if you go into the folder the game is installed in and look around.

With my old computer:

AMD 64 X2 5600+ (Windsor chip, OC'ed from 2.8 to 3.1)
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
4GB DDR2 800 5-5-5-18
2x 8800GTS 512MB in SLI
Windows XP w/ SP3

Everything maxed for DX9, no AA/AF, I would average 43fps according to the Crysis GPU benchmark program.

I have yet to run the benchmark with my new parts.....

This is using my current system, will run it with a 4850 after lunch.
