Cooler Master Prepares New Premium ATC 840 ''Raytheon'' Chassis

Over the past five or so years, the standards of design and engineering for computer cases certainly reached new highs. With increasing competition and market for pretty-much every segment of buyer, the general design of a computer case in 2001 transitioned from a 'box', to the snazzy techno and eventually, the more artistic brushed metal cases, some with lavish use of aluminum and even copper. Cooler Master has been in the business of computer cases for a while now. Over the years, the company emerged as one of those important companies to look out for, when in the market for a good, sturdy chassis. News is, that Cooler Master is preparing a premium desktop case called ATC 840 "Raytheon", which follows the launch of the HAF (high air-flow) design chassis.

Pictures show the case to have brushed metal overalls, with planned air-channels where air is guided by 120mm fans and drawn in by a powerful yet silent 230mm fan. There is also mention of air-filtering. As expected with cases of its range, the case is compartmentalized, and comes with a system-board tray that completely slides out from the rear of the case. This case should be out by the end of this month, prices are not known at this point.

nice case with the removable back and tray, nice aesthetic very minimalistic and neutral which is better than a flashy case that might not appeal to everyone

i like the what do you call it minds went black you know that bit with the usb ports its looks classy and i like how you can hide it away

nice cool mesh top and also mentions some filtering

overall nice cool looking practical case

Nice looking case 'tho it looks like it will be a bit wider than most to be able to fit the 230mm fan in the front. Glad to also see that it's going to allow 5 hard drives to be fitted up front and it looks like there should be sufficient airflow to get into the actual interior thru the drive cage. Also am glad to see that they have a vent for the PSU so that you can mount it fan-side down.

I do have some minor nitpicks 'tho:

1. Why did they have to use a 230mm fan instead of say a 200mm or even a 220mm? I did a quick look and there still is not any aftermarket 230mm fans out there so if the one that comes with the case dies you'll have to contact them for a replacement.

2. I've never really been sold on having any venting on the bottom beyond that for the PSU. I'd much rather have fan mounts on the top IMHO.

3. Does not look like there is much in the way of cable management behind the motherboard tray. Granted, it does not look impossible with how it looks currently but it would have been nice to have something that hides all the wires for when you remove the tray so that you do not have to worry about cable snags when you pull it out.

I see a whole ton of potential with that case as far as cable management. It's not a solid backplate to the mobo tray so there's one less hole you have to make xD. Pull out is pretty ftw and I like the sideways HDD mounts. Other than that I don't really like the power buttons on top or the underside vent system. No holes for WC, no real place on top for a mounted radiator . Other than that it looks pretty fun and with a good paint job would make even the fanciest cases jealous.

guys i really like it. A bit on the LianLi side. HAF maybe has tons of airflow but looks ugly compared to this

This case reminds me of my TJ-09, it looks like they borrowed a lot from its design: the front looks the same, brushed aluminum finish, the compartment for the USB ports at the top, top and bottom vents. At least Coolermaster went with the top-mounted PSU, much better than bottom-mounted on TJ-09.

I wonder how many fans will it have? They should have 2 120 or 140mm at the top vent, like the TJ-09. And where is the 230mm? On the other side? I agree with pjladyfox, 230mm size is bad idea, there arent any fans you could buy in that size. TT made the same mistake with Armor+ and MX. But then again we could start seeing 230mm aftermarket fans after this case is released, perhaps Coolermaster or TT could be the first to do so.

And finally, one problem i see with the brushed aluminum finish is that it gets stained sooo easily and not that easy to clean when it does. All you have to is touch it and you'll see fingerprints in that area. This is why i use a pair of glowes when handling my case, otherwise it would be covered in prints and would look horrible.

An eSATA port on the outside - now that is going to become VERY useful - cheap removable hard drive anyone?

I had a hell of a time with cable management due to bottom mounted PSU, after i switched to a modular one it made things somewhat better but to this day i regret getting this case because of that.

yeah, cable management could be better. especially with the mobo tray support on the back and how the panel sits right up against it. Overall I am still happy with it.

I like that they finally cut a hole in their mobo trays. Would've been a nice addition to my stacker 830 as well.
