Thanks for pointing that out.

I have been following experimental HD7950 to HD7970 flashing since June and so far nobody has been able to unlock shaders except for the A7950 Fire Radeon card from China which will flash to HD7970.


I will keep an eye on Kets work and hopefully the Radeon Gods will see our desires in doing this flash and help us out with a proper BIOS or BIOS tool that can do the job right.

My gpu temps with the Heatkiller block...

Ambient temps 27C.

Furmark 15 minute 1920x1050 Burn in Benchmark.



The VRM temps are still hotter than I was hoping for but the card is over clocked like a beast and over all the VRM temps are decent for this over clock with water.

This water block looks great and performs great.


Sidewinder computers has the best deal on it.

I don't seem to have the luck when it comes to hardware. My 2500k is the 50% that doesn't overclock great. I had one 6950 die on me. I think my 7970 just died. Just congrats on that card.

I have had problems with computer stuff as well but I have had alot of luck lately with decent hardware. Good luck getting your video card problem fixed.

Doing some tweaks to my HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ 79X0 Ni-Bl water block.

1. Replaced stock thermal pads with fujipoly extreme thermal pads on RAM and VRMs.
2. Switching from IC Diamond 24 to Coollaboratory Liquid Pro.

Will be a few more days till I get my loop to share temps.

Here are photos of what I have done so far.

Drop of Liquid Pro that covered both the DIE and surface of block. Fujipoly extreme on memory is .5mm thick.

Does require time and care to remove but from my experience with it on my CPU DIE it works better than any other TIM I have ever used so to me it is worth the extra time and care to use it to improve cooling.

Finally got my loop together and Fujipoly Xtreme thermal tape .5mm on RAM and 1mm on VRMS.

Before....

IC Diamond on HD7950 die with stock Thermal Tape that comes with Heatkiller nickelplate block.

Ambient temps were much cooler but the Delta looks better.
Also important to note that I am now running my water line to the CPU first then to the GPU. Before I was running directly to the GPU first then the CPU.

Looks like a success.

It is not. I am pretty sure I know why the 6950 died. The 7970 died, coincidentally, right after I moved so I think it got a little shaken. You posted and helped in both threads for those two cards in some way too.

Those are some EPIC temps with that EPIC overclock. Like a side of ice with that? What is in your loop?

Thanks. I managed to get in a few games of UT3 today and it was awesome. I'm gaming with 3570k at 5GHz, ram at 2400mhz and HD7950 at 1250/1700.

My loop consist of the following.

1. Swiftech MCP655-B Pump with a Alphacool acrylic top

2. OCCOOL NexXxos UT-60 420mm with3x Bgears 140mm 1800RPM fans in pull
3. Heatkiller nick plated full cover block on HD7950
4. CPU has DT Sniper Water Block
5. 7/16" Tygon clear tubing r-3603
6. 1/2" fat boy barbs
7. EK-Multioption RES X2 - 150 Advanced reservoir
8. Distilled water with a Monsoon silver bullet in reservoir and PT Nuke.
9. All Thermal pads on mother board and video card have been replaced with Fujipoly xtreme thermal pads. Liquid Pro on GPU die and CPU die. Thermal right chipset heat sink on SB with IC Diamond TIM.

I don't recall the topics u mention. It does come with experience. n Ya this is the average oc of the chip I have. just like users of the 2nd n 3rd gen core i7 /i5 reaching 4.5 ghz

Looking for some advice. I can buy this card secondhand at a slight 15% discount. Not too bad since it's only 5 months old.

However the newer Vaporx 7950 from Sapphire apparently has an identical pcb to the 7970 Vaporx version and it costs basically no more than this card new.

Now I know this card is missing one vrm compared to the 7970 version does anyone know if the same number of vrm's are used on the VaporX 7970 and 7950 as this card? The reason I think they may is because the Vaporx cards are shipped with 8pin and 6pin connectors too not two 8pins.

If any non chinese 7950 can be unlocked then it would ahve to have the same pcb as some version of the 7970 so maybe it would be a better idea to spend the extra 15% and buy a new Vaporx, apparently the cooling solution is slighly better than this version although it's vrm heatsink is applied with 2mm pads due to the HS being interfered with by the resistors near the vrms.
