AC'97 non-default pin?

Hello all!

This is my first post here, sorry if i post in wrong area, also i'm Brazilian.

I sell computer accessories, and i have sold about to 30 computer cases with ac'97 audio on front panel for a computer builder company.

Now they are having a problem with the sound, and they are asking me what pattern is used on the computer case, because it seems to not follow default Front Panel I/O Connectivity Design Guide from intel (you can see at: http://www.formfactors.org/developer...928604-005.pdf).

this is the case connectors:




The connectors uses a wire jumping pin 6 to 5 and jumping pin 9 to 10, but, doing a research over the internet, i can see that many computer cases uses this pin pattern, i found many images.

Most of times, this scheme are used along with HD audio connectors, as a secondary option for non HD audio motherboards (like images below). but i still don't have any reference to this pin scheme.







Someone have any idea how i can answer them about the pin usage, i need a trustworthy reference, they think this is a non-default scheme and are willing to send back the computer cases to me

I dont know about the patterns, but normally you should plug in the ac97 audio on the motherboard. If the motherboard support HD audio, you should plug the HD audio in. Normally you can see it on the motherboard.

btw HD audio is better

but, couldnt it be an driver problem, if ac97 is plugged in, and HD audio installed in windows/OS?

I also think it's a drive problem, the mainboard supports both AC'97 and HD audio.

look on the tests procedure we have did:


1 - Mainboard with another AC'97 case - windows - Worked

2 - Mainboard with another AC'97 case - linux - Worked

3 - Case with another mainboard - windows - Worked

4 - Case with another mainboard - linux - Worked

5 - Case with THE mainboard - linux - not worked

5 - Case with THE mainboard - Windows - worked

Even it's working on windows, they claim that the problem is with the case, because works on linux on another ac'97 case.

Also, on default AC'97 (you can see at intel's guide, page 20) the connectors should disable rear panel with "normally-closed" jacks, that opens when the headphone is plugged. But, with the jumpers in the connectors, this will never happen.

They need to release computers with linux, because of a specific sell rule by government.

1 AC97 is dead no one uses it anymore never plug a AC97 jack into a HD port it could fry motherboard
2. you obviously don't know enough about linux to fix the problem
1. you need to compile/install the driver for that chipset
2. you need to configure ALSA/pulse to route the pins for the audio to the front panel
3. there is nothing worse then a citizen asking the government todo something for them when it requires meddling in the public market .... never ends well

I agree with that, but this is a cheap case, which i have in stock from some time already (last units), customer liked the design and wasn't worried about AC'97 audio.

Even i know a little about linux, i don't want to take part of their process, they need to do this, not me, i just need to prove that the case is not the real problem.

yes this is weird, the government gives them a tax discount when they assembly computers following some patterns, this is to make the computer cheap enough (with basic needed resources) for poor people, schools and others have easy access to technology, also, main parts of computer must be assembled here in Brazilian industry.

I have contacted the company who assembled the case, i'm awaiting for response of them.
