How do I get this down? - X58/i7 930 temps
The machine is stable but it seems rather warm to me. My AC/heater (whatever you call it for Texas) is set to 72f. My room is probably a hair above or below since my fan is usually spinning.
![]() So there ya go. System specs still up to date in the left <---

Is that the lowest you can get your Vcore and QPI voltage seems high for such a light overclock. I would also switch to an odd multiplier.

I'll get back with ya then. ![]() Edit 1 ) Dropped vcore and gpi vcore by .05 and the qpi by .125. Temps remains same. low 60 when idle and high 90's when load.

Try to keep these as close as possible try
CPU Vcore 1.28-1.33 CPU QPI PLL Vcore 1.28-1.33 should be able to keep them the same, 1.40 QPI is pretty high and will contribute to heat. Should put all other voltages to auto. The other voltages seems high as well CPU Pll looks good if you can lower try that some have to raise to about 1.86. This is just from what I see on the screen shot I am sure you should be able to lower the voltages though for 3.8. Edit: Might be time to remount the cooler and apply new paste or get a better one. Dusting does wonders for temps also.

That's wicked hot. I'd try reseating the cooler and making sure that it's getting good airflow. How hot is the heatsink itself? Ideally, the fins should be barely warm. With my i7-920 @ 3.83GHz I'm at about 70C full load on an Antec H2O-620.

Just pulled voltages from the board directly.
They are as following vcore: 1.345V DIMM: 1.67V VTT: 1.457V IOH: 1.305V CPU - PLL: 1.95V QPI - PLL 1.26V IOH - IO: 1.755 ICH - QO: 1755 ICH - 1.216V Temps are high 50's low 60s idle and high 80s load.

My i7 920 only needs 1.175v to get to 3.8GHz... keep lowering that vcore. At this voltage I get roughly 65c under 100% WCG load with a Corsair h70, roughly 70f room temp.
Not sure why your VTT voltage is so high either. I use my board's standard of 1.2v (can't go any lower actually) and I'm running 1600mhz ram in triple channel. |

I think it's lying.... I just set it to default and temps show 51c. No freakin' way...

Did you remount the cpu cooler like Ion said? Thats what it sounds like if your temps are that bad at default or your board is overvolting like mad.

If your running the Mugen II on that board, something is wrong. What fan speed is the CPU cooler running?

51c idle? Mine is idling at 44c with all the power saving stuff on. It's not dropping the voltage any, but it is downclocking it to 2.4GHz. Bear in mind this is with a lapped h70, and my CPU is lapped as well.

CPU PLL should stay at 1.8 maybe bump it to 1.81. Keep dropping the vcore till it wont boot, then bring it back up to the last known good voltage and check temps and stability at that point.

I set it back to stock so that woulnd't be the issue. I meant to pickup some thermal paste at frys while I was out but I forgot... I'll most likely rebuild the machine.
I'll post back in a day or two and let y'all know.

Yeah. If this was set automatically in BIOS during OC, usually it is outside specifications. My mate has a rig with an Xeon W3580 (similar to i7-975) and that was happy running at 1.78v on CPU PLL at 3.9GHz to 4.0GHz.

try to lower CPU PLL to 1.65V or so? I agree on that one can use some tweaking, maybe, if you are lucky.
