LucidPort Starts Shipping First USB 3.0 to SATA Bridge Chip

LucidPort Technology commenced shipping of the industry's first USB 3.0 to SATA bridge chip, the LucidPort USB300. The chip connects a SATA II hard drive, or solid state drive to a USB Full-speed 1.1, Hi-speed 2.0, and Super-speed 3.0 port. It supports native command queuing (NCQ), AES 128/256-bit encryption, and transfer-rates as high as 210 MB/s when used with Windows Mass Storage driver. It offers even higher transfer-rates when used with the new USB-attached SCSI (UAS) driver. The most prominent applications of this chip includes external hard-drives, and external drive enclosures. Competitors such as PLX, Fujitsu, and Faraday Electronics, etc., are expected to release similar chips later this year.

What the heck are they going to call USB 4.0 if they ever come up with it?

I think by that time USB and SATA will merge into some kinda unholy chimera thats got the flaws of both but lacks at least some of the strengths of each.

I'm guessing I'd need to bolt the USB device to the wall (none specific as I'm damned happy with what I have in terms of USB devices).

Its what Im voting for, after reading about it, esata/sata can support the same kind of devices as USB, but at higher bandwidth, sounds win/win to me.

Is this the same company that makes the "Lucid" chip for multiple graphics card scaling? When is that coming out?

My post was actually a UT99 reference... it goes double kill, multi kill, ultra kill, M-M-M-MONSTER KILL... kill... kill... later UT's added the somewhat tasteless "HOLY SHIT!!" after monster kill

Godlike was a title given if you got either 20 or 25 kills without dying, I forgot which

What do you mean? What brand is it? It's still just a hard drive in a box. Take the hard drive out of it, throw the case in the junk bin, and put the hard drive in an eSATA case.

I can't believe I didn't think of it. I just watched it less than a week ago, too. I feel ashamed.
