Monitor turns on every other time

Hi guys,

My first time posting here, it is an honor to join the community!

Anyways onto my problem. My monitor like the question states, only turns on every other time I power on my computer. I have no idea what the problem is, I've reformatted several times now so i know it isn't a driver issue.

When I restart my computer, the monitor stays black but everything is still loading and progressing, just no image. When I shut down properly from within Windows and turn it back on, same problem. However, after I force shut down while the computer is on with the blank monitor and then turn my computer back on, the monitor starts working again. What could be causing this?

Monitor is a Hanns G HH251 25" 1920x1080 (I am plugged into my video card via DVI and it converts to hdmi)
AMD Phenom X4 II 955 BE
4 GB G-Skill DDR1600 RAM
Sapphire 4890 1GB Vapor-X
300GB Velociraptor
Asus AM3 Mobo
700 Watt Thermaltake PSU

Hi, and Welcome
you could try reseating the graphics card, also try the other dvi out port on the graphics card

Also you should mention what brand and model the screen is

I guess I'll try getting a new cable then. Should I just go hdmi to hdmi since my video card can do that? or should I stick with dvi-hdmit like I have right now?

oh wow! I think I just figured it out guys, It might have been the forced RAM timings I set in my bios because I just did a load system default and now everything is fine. Thanks for your help anyways!
