Will I be able to RMA my memory?

For the past few days i've been having random lockups, usually after an hour or so into use. So i began the trouble shooting process. I started with the mem and removed 1 stick, about an hour passes then lockup, replaced the stick with the 1 i took out and it ran for the rest of the night.
A day or so passes and i picked up what i thought to be the faulty ram (to move to a safer location) to find the heatspreader on one side loose.
These sticks have been running for the last few months just below rated speed @ default 1.8v with a dominator ram fan.
The HS is stuck on with glue/epoxy to each chip but now only the very tops of each chip are stuck.

I haven't ran mem test yet and don't really wan't to with the hs hanging off, but if i did and it failed could it be that the chips are getting too hot with no hs?
I know that removing it would void the warranty but seeing as its still ever so slightly attached would it be accepted?

i would tell me when you fill out the rma that the heatspreader started coming off and you think its a defective stick

well Im gonna be the bearer of bad news....

Looks to me like you tried pulling the spreader. No way normal use is going to bend the spreader. Corsair is most likely going to say the same.

If its disfunctional its worth a shot, but you are still going to have to pay to ship them even if the claim is denied.

I admit in the past i was curious as to what chips they were but due to some horror stories of ripping chips off i never did. That and the fact they dont use thermal pads.
I also see now that one of the pics the hs does look bent but i can assure you it definatly is not.

Its not bent, when its was laying flat i just pushed down on one side (like a see-saw) to show that it had become detached from most of each ic's for the pics.

I just can't believe that the epoxy has failed, doesn't it take quite alot of heat to do this, which i know couldn't of happened.
I take it no-one has heard of this sort of prob before? i know i hadn't.

Ic could have been a bit ddirty when the glue was applied and never had "good" adhesion. Normal use could break that free.

Silly idea IMHO, but, when people do pull the spreaders and screw it up, this way they guarantee not having to RMA due to curiosity

Dont get me wrong I have pulled a ton of spreaders. The Corsairs I was warned about before I got my set similar to yours.

Agreed 100%. I clock the piss out of em no matter the IC's. I do however like to see the ones that suck so I can try to say away from them later

I'll setup the rma process tomorrow and let you all know how it goes.

I just wan't to re-itterate that i have in no way tampered with these, hell even my old reapers that have themal pads and screws holding them together i have never taken apart.

I never meant to say you did, just an observation of what the tech might say that looks at them

No worries, people have RMA'd for worse reasons.
