Internet connection maxing out when downloading.

hi, guys im currently with virgin media 10meg connection, can't complain about them at all im getting a great deal and ive had no problems with them at all.

Only thing im wondering about is that when im downloading using utorrent seems like my download speed max out at 1.1mb, kinda hits that speed and just sits at 1.1.

What i mean is, it climbs up in down speed, hits 1.1, then never goes higher doesnt matter what im downloading it never goes higher tbh i get the same just downloading updates etc.

Is this a limitation on the router, as i am using the 'stock' reference router from virgin media. maybe just an isp limitation?, or maybe software limitation but it should'nt with a 10meg connection surely.

mB != MB. In fact, there is a factor 8 difference, 10mBit = 1.25MByte, thus 1.1 is quite normal.

Anyway, enjoy the world of "high speed" broadband courtesy of Virgin Media - they're one of the biggest users of bandwidth throttling to take away all that broadband speed they lured you in with in the first place.

And they especially like throttling bittorent, because it "eats bandwidth" and it's "illegal" don'tcha know? In other words, they're just screwing the customer for profit.

Well haven't you jumped on the "let's bash VM bandwagon".

Anyway, as previous people have said, 1.1MB/s is perfectly normal on your 10mbit connection you are getting from VM, when I was on their 10mbit package I saw similar speeds. I now regularly see 2MB/s+ on the 20mbit package.

There are 8 bits in a Byte, so 10 megabits is roughly 1.25 megaBytes

I'm on karoo's 16Mb connection in hull and get around 1.67MB/sec download speed.

your problem has been answered. MB and Mb are different things.

yup i have 10mbit from virgin aswell the max i got was 1.2mbytes/s

8Mb = 1MB
10Mb = 1.25MB

1.2's pretty good, you rarely get theoretical max
