Potential Forum Awards Discussion

Lets get the ball rolling on this since a few regulars seamed to like the idea.

First of all we'll need a few things that people can actually " win"

We already have the obvious ones.

Most helpful member.

Funiest Member.

Friendliest Member.

Most attractive male/female

But is there any you would like to see?

If the forum awards were to go ahead,a thread will be made with the various potential awards and all you need to do is copy and paste the list into your post, and add the name of the member you think deserves the award, if you like you can add a reason but it would not be nesscery.

Seeing as I'm the one who suggested it all I'll volunteer to tally the votes.

Let me know what you think!

And if you have any suggestions.

Thank you.

I personally hate awards. The point is to distinguish yourself from someone else, saying, "I'm better." I don't know if any of you remember the "Power Users" or any of that, but it got out of hand FAST. We had to make a club forum! The only way users should distinguish themselves is signatures and avatars, and of course, if they have 5000 posts or more, a title. Otherwise it really gets dumb with everyone having an award. It is just clutter.

Not every one would get an award, theres only so many active members and it would be a once a year only thing.

Hell you wouldn't even get a custom title or any ceremony.

All you would get is that x ammount of people think your funny for example.

It never got out of hand on the forum I'm stealing the idea from, and I was on that forum when I was 12-15 I won 3 awards during my time there.

I realize that there are many forums that have awards, in fact, I am member of a few! What do you pay attention to when you look at my posts? The first this you see is my name. The next is my avatar. You now have an image of me in your mind. Then you see my custom title, ok this guy is probably an older member or a moderator ok... Then you read my post, and then look at my signature. Ok he has a good looking sig, ah ok I understand his custom title now, he made his signature neat, ok so now, he has links in his sig... maybe I will click them. You already know ALL THAT about me. The awards add nothing useful that cannot be expressed in the fields there now. Lets review:

How you can express yourself:

1. Name
2. Title
3. Avatar
4. Signature Pic
5. Signature Link
6. System Specs
7. Post
8. User Info

Why do we need another field?

Ahhh but your missing a key point, its not your self expression, its the opinion of others, obviously many people do not care what other people think, or at the least are not fussed.

But if your not then just pay no heed to the thread if it ever happens : ]

For example I would say people see me as helpful and friendly, yet obviously young and perhaps impatient.

By the by, because I have no tone of voice here, I'm not so much arguing, only replying to your comments.

I find that a lot of people enjoy compliments, and recieving an award based on only your personality is pretty flatering.

Certainly to me.

Lets pretend we are in the real world. You might know it as "RL." When people walk around in reality, they don't have badges that say "Bad Speller" or something, you kind of learn it from experiences with these people. One reason why the community is so strong here is people LEARN from talking with other people. Awards diminish the connection to other people, which is why I prefer to go without them. The community here is tight, and I would like to keep it that way. I don't want people to look at me and say, OMG he is good at this, I will ask him about this. I want them to learn it on their own. That builds friendships on this forum.

Surely only ass hats would actually parade around with their award in their sig though.

I've won awards in real life, and I don't walk around with my certificates and medals eh XD

Most Funiest member??? really why not just give a most sarcastic award too.

I cant really see how the choosing a candidate and winner would work, should it be the mods, W1z, the forum members. After its decided if awards are to be places that needs to be choosen.

I think any thing that is positive can be a good thing. Many here have helped me learn the "ART" of computers. Many skilled people here I don't see why awards as Pantherx12 is trying to get going would be bad at all.

Yeah, I don't think it should be analyzed too much, lets just have some fun with it!
