XFX to Enter Power Supply Market with 850 W Black Edition
Manufacturers branching out in to different segments seems to be the in thing to do at the moment and XFX is no exception as leaked slides on the forums of Legit Reviews, reveal that XFX are getting ready to announce their first power supply line at Computex Taipei 2009 next month. The first of which has been dubbed the 850 W Black Edition (XPS-850W-BES), which follows suit of many of their Black Edition graphics cards. It is a modular PSU featuring 88% effeciency and sports a 70A single 12v rail capped at 840 W. It would seem XFX are taking this seriously as the combined output across all of the wattage caps is in excess of 1,000 W. According to the slides the PSU features 105°C Japanese brand capacitors, +/-3% voltage regulation, solid polymer caps, and a 135mm ball bearing fan. Using a combination of fixed and removable cables the XFX 850 W Black Edition has 4 PCI-E 6+2 Pin connectors, 11 SATA connectors and 8 Molex connectors.

Same OEM as Corsair??
Specs seem very similar but I have to say, this thing does look pretty sexy. Edit: Would look better with just a plain top, not that weird design....but that damn fan sells it for me! Heres a google translated page with more info: CLICK HERE

the fan looks snazzy, but that grille would impede airflow and increase noise pretty badly.

looks like it might be good. They really need to change the name though. Everything is "black" or "extreme", sheesh! Enough already. I'd be just as happy with a "deluxe" or a simple "+" or nothing but a number for a change. I mean whats next? The "extremely black extremist extreme edition"?

Because they took a year to RMA my 8800GTX. Three month waits for replys, finally I do get an RMA number send it back and they send me annother faulty one. THATS WHY I HATE XFX!

yeah, i cant really argue with that. i'd avoid a brand after an annoying experience like that too.

Be rational, Mussels! You'd have a better chance at receiving a free 8800 GTX than both getting one that needs an RMA and being screwed by the RMA process, together.

I like the looks of it besides the fan and module connectors color, but that could be changed.

One big single rail, I like that. I don't like the cosmetics though. My favorite psu still stands: the Silverstone DA1000w. 100% modular design and one big 80A 12v rail

my 650 Corsair has 52A on a single rail so that is pretty good to get 18 more Amps on an 850 beast. I like the look of it really.
