Does a new cpu get "faster" over the first week?

I installed a Q9550 last week and have been benching the hell out of my system lately. One thing Ive noticed is that my bench #'s have gone up, my temps have gone down and my settings are still as they were when I found an optimal limit.

For instance, I like to use winrar to get a quick bench of the cpu to compare to previous cpus Ive tested.. This one was getting 1680-1700, now it's getting closer to 1890 after a few days since last test..

3dmark 06 scores were around mid 17K.. 2 hours ago it scored 18433.. same settings as before..

super pi is down to 11 seconds vs 13 seconds on wednesday...

wprime is still the same though.. mayb a tenth here or there...

So, does a cpu have a "break in" period? I know AS5 has a cure time and thats probbaly contributing to lower temps.
Currently 3612 mhz @ 1.280 vcore 1700fsb. idle 42-44 load 65/68

(watercooling loop is enroute from tpu member so I'm hoping to get temps lower)

If the CPU doesn't have "break in" time what could contribute to these bench gains?

Maybe the cpu had a burn in period due to the benching

nope, they dont get faster.

"burn in" doesnt affect speed at all either.

You mention win7 - its possible something was caching in the background into superfetch the first time, and that lowered your original scores.
hell, maybe you ran windows update and got new drivers.

Theres no 'mood swings' with electrical components, its just background processes that will affect scores.

Ahh I see, background services. I did run AIM with those previous benches and the last time I didn't.. and AIM is the only program installed to run on startup. I'm going to test with AIM running and AIM not.
