4 year olds and the Xiggy 1283 don't mix.
I was switching out cases today and had all my components out on the back porch blowing off dust with canned air and whatnot. My four year old Nathan comes up behind me and grabs my Xigmatek 1283 and says, "Daddy, what's this?" I tell him not to touch it and he drops it on the concrete steps. Here's the damage.........
![]() ![]() ![]() Needless to say, I'm running a stock cooler now....

Owned. Now break something of his...
It's hard to tell from the image but if the actual cooler is still intact and it's just the mounting system that's jacked you should be able to buy the bolt-thru kit and use it that way. Push pins r teh sux anyway |

it seem that the heatpipes were moved or bent on on one side, and yeah the performance might or will be less but it could be better than stock, remember it's always better to try than to trow it away

That doesn't look good.
I was responding to a thread on Monday with my 1 1/2 son on my lap. I was just typing away so it took me a while to realise that he was jabbing the lower left corner of my brand new 24" ASUS with a mechanical pencil. Luckily, I got away with no scratches. Unfortunatly your cooler looks like it wasn't so lucky. I'm sure they will break even more expenseive stuff as the years go on. |

It will still work I'm sure. I own two Zalman 9500s that arrived at my home completely hammed, because of the careful handling of the post office. They still worked quite well.

Heatpipes are dented where they contact the CPU; cooler is pwned.

Ah, it'll buff out.
You shouldn't have said anything at all and just snatched it up. I have a 2 year old and thats exactly what I do, because if I tell him to put it down, all the sudden he thinks he's a quarterback and chucks whatever it might be. |

How bad are the heatpipes dented? Would it be possible for you to sand the dents out? Do you have any form of access to a belt sander anywhere? Sand it down with rough grit to get the dents out quickly then go through the lapping process with the really fine grit sandpaper - 400-800-1000 etc

If I were you, I would not trust a $200 CPU to a broken half working $60 part.
Just get a new one, and take the cash to get it out of your son's college fund. O wait no.

Actually what you could do with the heat pipes is get a microtorch
![]() And some pre 1982 (IIRC) pennies, and fill the holes in with the melted pure copper from the penny. Then you'd obviously have to lap it, but I think the heat transfer would be just fine. |
