new build advice i5/i7

Hi

Im considering a new build in the next couple of months and im just wondering which would be better , 1156 or 1366 ?

Il be using the PSU , GPU ( gtx260) HDDs etc from my existing build and hopefully CPU cooler if i can get a new bracket ( TRUE120) so i just need a new processor , RAM and board

P55 wise ive seen the MSI gd80 board and the asus maximus formaula 3 ,core I7 860 and either corsair dominator 1866mhz ram or GTs ( is the difference in timings worth the £££ .

x58 the only board i like the look of is the asus rampage 2 extreme , a I7 920 D0 and the same ram in triple channel guise , dark theme going on :P

what are peoples thoughts on this for a day to day gaming computer - dual cards possible in the future , and when do the 32nm 1366 chips come out / worth waiting for ?. has any one any experience of any off these boards and car to share .

+1 (except I went with OCZ mem and a W3503 for now) But it leaves a lot of room to upgrade if needed, and being able to switch between Crossfire/SLI is fun.

I would go for i7 920 if you have a micro center nearby. It costs 200 usd. If you dont or dont have a lot of cash, go for i7 860. If you do have a lot of money, go for xeon w3520

im in the uk so that messes things up a little , and we usually get hit for tax when we import from the states , thinking of an i7 860 , EVGA p55 FTW and 1600mhz low timing ram if i can get a 2x2 kit .

do you mean a 3x2 kit? (if using a 64bit OS) if not a 3x1 kit is perfect for a 32bit OS.

You can use dual channel mem with a x58 but its made for triple channel

no , the P55 ( even with i7 CPUs) only supports dual channel ddr3

2x2GB of good RAM (something capable of C7 or C8 at 1600MHz), i5/i7 processor of your choice, and the MSI GD 80.

or save up some cash and go Core i7, and X58.
