Galaxy Unveils First Single-Slot Air-Cooled GeForce GTX 260 Accelerator

Constantly innovating new graphics cards designs, Galaxy pushed the limits of engineering by coming up with the first GeForce GTX 260 with a single-slot air cooler. To achieve this, the company designed its own long cooler based on the Vapor Chamber (VC) technology. A VC plate sits on top of the GPU and the aluminum base-plate of the cooler (to cool the memory) On top of the VC plate is a dense copper channel array through which air directed by the blower passes. There is a separate heatsink over the VRM area, which cools off under the air-flow from the main cooler.

The entire set of heatsinks is neatly packed under an aluminum shroud. The card packs standard features of the GeForce GTX 260, including 216 shader processors, 896 MB of GDDR3 memory across a 448-bit memory interface, 3-way SLI support, and support for DirectX 10. Connectivity options include one each of DVI-D, HDMI, and S-Video/composite. It draws power from two 6-pin PCI-E power connectors. Availability and pricing of this card is not known just as yet.

This looks a lot like the single slot cooler that was on my 1950 Pro. However, anything single slot that works well without sounding like a hair dryer on high is a welcome product. I hate putting in a video card(s) and then trying to figure out how to uncover all of the expansion slots that are now useless.

Galaxy's known to be very innovative with their cooling. I reckon this GTX260+ will run pretty close to the normal GTX260s in terms of temperatures. Talk about a degradation though... its gone from a fully enclosed "premium" product to something that looks like a midrange graphics card.

I don't get it, Nvidia's design is 2 slots thick, this is NON-typical Nvidia, being as it is a non-(nvidia)-reference pcb.

Unless you're talking about the 8800/9800GT or the 9600GT.

Hell, if it makes a GTX260 cheaper, this is still pretty neat.

With these I can finally do tri SLI on my motherboard without getting rid of my Xonar sound card. If they price these right and get them on the market fast enough I might forget about going the 5870/5850 route.

I see the application of the single slot cooler....I just dont see it keeping this card cool enough for even a modest overclocking venture.

Think 8800GT, how bad was the stock cooling on that? Even the revised edition with the bigger opening for the fan wasn't great.

What annoys me the most with this card is the fact the fan blows hot air backwards as opposed to blowing it towards the blanking plates...this will be an issue for smaller cases like I'm sure it was intended to be used in.

you gotta think of it from a business standpoint.

only 20% of the market is ppl like you and me that OC stuff.

the other 80% leave cards at stock clocks.

Time for little 6/7 card folding. Be cheaper than triple 295's by a decent margin.
