Help fix battery

I wonder if it's possible that my laptops battery is giving me the wrong % when I run off battery. When it's 100% it says I have about 3 minutes of battery life than goes down pretty fast. When I charge it takes only a few minutes to go back up at 100%.

Windows 7 Power options say I should change the battery but is it possible the battery is just giving the wrong reading or something?. Is there a program to fix it if possible

When you look under "Fully Charged Capacity 1787 mWh" than "Designed Capacity "44400 mWh" you can clearly see something isn't right.

Is this laptop new or older? Because if it's new, i'd take it back where you bought it.
If it's old, then the battery is very close to its end.

If that battery really had 44400 mWh the laptop could last for at least a day on, so this leads me to say that it's a reporting error from RightMark.
Turn the laptop off and remove the battery, read whats written on it and there should be the real mWh, probably in the range of 4400 (6 cells, 2 hours) or 9000 (9 cells, 6 hours).

EDIT: Oh and forgot to add that the battery is ruined, you need a replacement (it probably leaked internally, it happned with my phone battery too, you should probably be abble to see that the battery is somewhat "large/fatter").

Did you accidentally deleted your previous post?
Either way, that was something I really wasn't expecting, now shutdown the laptop, restart and stress it like hell for a good long time (lets say half an hour of Prime95 or something, to make sure that the battery is in fact in good conditions), and if it "survives" then It's all good baby!.

EDIT: oh and BTW, RightMark is infact reporting the correct info, I just didn't realised until now that I was reading and typing Watts instead of Amps (4000 mAh * 11.1v = 44400 mWh), sorry for the misleading.

my laptop which im currently on only lasts 10min and its about 3-4 years old i bealive batterys dont last long unfortunetely about 3 or so years is what you can expect...4 if its really well taken care of....when i worked at GS people would come in freaking out...but it just happens its what they do....alot of people would also get mad because they have only had it like 2 years and it would start only lasting like 2 hours....then i would ask them if it was plugged in 24/7 and they said ya.....the tric is with lit ions is that you need to sorta "train" it like you would a brand new clutch. to get the best life out of any rechargable battery you need to run it down to 0 then charge it back up to 100% if you dont it looses life.

Try this site. It's supposed to have everything you would ever wan to know about batteries. I ripped the whole site so I can send you a pdf if you don't want to be clicking links.

Have your people PM my people.

One thing I found was that if LiIon are stored above a certain temp, they lose about 20% of their capacity in one year. Also, you only want to drain them about every 30 charges.
