nVIDIA Disables PhysX when ATi card is present

Quote:
Nvidia does not tolerate use of their own graphics cards as Physx accelerators as soon as a foreign card is used for graphics computation.

Many Ati graphics cards users don't want to do without the Nvidia feature Physx and used a Radeon card for the graphics output and an Nvidia graphics card for Physx. As operating system Windows XP or Windows 7 is required. Vista doesn't allow the use of two different graphics card drivers.

The forum user darthcyclonis from ngohq.com now discovered that Nvidia disapproves a configuration with Ati and Nvidia graphics cards. From driver version 186 on, the feature Physx is immediately and irrevocably deactivated the minute the system detects a foreign graphics card.

get the patch from that ngohq thread, works great with the new drivers.

Got my 4850x2 and 8800gts working perfectly together using the 190.xx drivers and the patch.

This sucks.. damn.. Although we have 4-5Ghz i7's shouldn't this be like 'who cares' or is these something else behind why GPU should work with PhysX...

With NV pulling this, AMD decided to announce Open Physics programming, which should enable physics programming for all companies, basically making Physx a non selling point on NV parts.

i think messed with the ability to run these properly on cpu's. PhysX putsa real hurtin on a cpu. I think a 9500gt will run physx smoother then a i7

Agreed. i7's are nice chips and all, but unfortunately Nvidia only likes PhysX running on their GPU's.

Nvidia's in darkness without the proper light showing them the correct way. Very "nice" marketing scheme. At least microsoft is listening to consumer's opinion after a heavy setback with thier windows vista.

wityh a dedicated physx gpu your cpu wont stress as hard. As said above physx puts a hurtin on the cpu and the fact that nvidia is doing what they are doing just proves how desperate some companies can be

its not that they are desperate, its just that nvidia is really good at marketing, and good marketing = more money and money is good

because NV loves when it only fires on 1 of 8 threads in a cpu I think thats why the poster above you said he fixed that quote to say 1 of 4 cores.
