Intel Displays LGA-1156 Mini-ITX Motherboard
At the IDF 2009 event, Intel showed of the fruition of the platform component rearrangement socket LGA-1156 strives for, by relocating the northbridge to the processor package. On display was the company's newest mini-ITX socket LGA-1156 motherboard that is full-featured, complete with Intel Flexible Display Interface support. Based on the Intel H57 chipset, the motherboard supports Intel Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors based on the socket. Its two DDR3 DIMM slots provide dual-channel memory interface.
The sole expansion slot is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16, which can be used for any PCI-Express addon card. Located at the north of the board, the H57 chipset provides four SATA 3 Gbps ports, and requires a small heatsink to stay comfortable. The rear panel sums up the rest of the feature-set, it includes display output via DVI and HDMI, Ethernet, six USB ports, eSATA, and 8-channel audio with optical SPDIF. In the second picture below, it's placed to the left of a mini-ITX G45 motherboard by Intel. ![]() Source: Anandtech |

That's agreat addition to the ITX league. Interesting to see what price tag this one comes out with as with these babies able to load all the newest cores & room for add-on cards, possibly, a GPU, these are up for grabs! Thanx for the great info brother, CHEERS!

That is awesome, I can't wait to get my hands on one of those
Hopefully zotac will be making an 1156 or even 1366 ITX version too, that would be even better.

What's the little black slot behind the lan connector? Is it a mini PCI-E or perhaps a slot for a SSD to increase boot times?

Cool. I also hope they do a successor to their Q45 mITX board (has DVI-D + DVI-I).

Good question. The slot has latches, which Mini PCI Express cards don't use. Mini PCI cards use latches; however, that slot appears to be keyed, and Mini PCI cards aren't. Maybe it's for adding dedicated memory for the on-board video?

Is there a LV passive cooled CPU that will fit this? If so, this is going to be my next mini server build.

Intel Braidwood slot. I'm not sure it will make it to production boards, so it isn't talked about.

I think I found the platform for my Nes-puter. Also, my wife saw the board and said she needed to upgrade to the blue Intel board from her orange/yellow DFI.. |

Yep, that is just what I'd like to do... perhaps need to underclock it a bit; in a mITX case 45W is still a bit on the high side for passive.

This to me is the golden use for the 1156 socket, owning an X58 already that is.
Can you imagine a i3-i7 with 4gb of ddr3 and a mid range gfx card on this... wow. I've been considering a tiny build for a while, and this is suuuuper tempting. |

I'm running a 95w Q9400 passive in the Sugo SG05 (well, not quite passive because of the front fan) with a Cooler Master GeminII, load temps are around 50C
